Just picked up Louise Penny's, "The Great Reckoning". I didn't realize that it was part of a series & almost took it back while I researched the series & figured out that I should start at the beginningg of the series. I saw that it got lots of excellent reviews, so I jumped in and am so glad I did. Am about 100 pages in and am in love with this author. Have #1 in the series on hold at the library and may end up purchasing it from Kindle.

@smoky22 - hoping you are doing okay and are not affected by the TN fires. Just finished Ngaio Marsh's book #21, called "SINGING IN THE SHROUDS", and it was one of her best. Very Agatha Christie-like. It takes place on a boat, and of course, one of the passengers is a murderer.

Just ptb on The Shipping News by E. Annie Proulx. This is the 2nd book that won a Pulitzer Prize that I ptb on. Not sure if it was because of the "Newfoundland" language, the plot or what. I guess I have different tastes than the people who pick the author for this prize. It wasn't on my "original" tbr list but found it at a Free Little Library.
Onto Elizabeth Gilbert's Eat, Pray, Love. Another book that wasn't on my list but again, found it at the same Little Free Library. I enjoyed the movie and usually wouldn't read a book afterwards.

@dawg lover we are about 25 miles from the fires, not in any danger, but we do see smoke in the atmosphere. It's so sad for all the people who lost their homes (over 1200) and especially for those who lost family members (I think 13 people have died). Very sad.
I recently finished Overture To Death, the 8th in the Ngaio Marsh series. (I'm way behind you.) I really enjoyed this one, also very reminiscent of Agatha Christie. Roderick Alleyn is a great character.

I just started Plum Island (Nelson DeMille). I know this series was recommended by several posters here, including @sunala. It looks good.

I too was on the wait list for a very long time for Truly, Madly, Guilty. The first half of the book dragged for me. The second half was better. I liked her other books much more.

@SWEET, The Shipping News was local interest for me. I spent a lot of time there in my career. I can understand if you don't know the area that it might not be of interest. LM

I was wondering the same thing. So glad you're ok, smoky. Yes, very sad indeed. It's a beautiful area. How timely that Dolly Parton's sequel movie was on the other night. She's such a good person.
