Yesterday I finished When All the Girls Have Gone, the new book by Jayne Ann Krentz. It was a good contemporary mystery. I liked the main characters, both of whom seemed "real" and interesting. I think a good series could be written with the private investigator as an on-going character. It was not the best book of the year, but definitely worth reading and I recommend it.

@dawg lover wrote:@smoky22 - hoping you are doing okay and are not affected by the TN fires. Just finished Ngaio Marsh's book #21, called "SINGING IN THE SHROUDS", and it was one of her best. Very Agatha Christie-like. It takes place on a boat, and of course, one of the passengers is a murderer.
I was wondering the same thing. So glad you're ok, smoky. Yes, very sad indeed. It's a beautiful area. How timely that Dolly Parton's sequel movie was on the other night. She's such a good person.
@Judalineyou're right about Dolly. She is very generous to the area where she grew up. She's giving $1000 a month (for 6 months) to every family who lost their home.

Started reading SUMMER Of THE DEAD by Julia Keller. This is the third in a series which I really enjoy, about Bell Elkins, a prosecuter in West Virginia. I was savimg this book until january when I figured the weather would keep me from the library, but the last couple of books I started were boring and I put them down after a few pages, didn't want to waste the time. This series is really good.

I finished listening to The Bitter Season by Tami Hoag, a Liska and Kovac book. Except, Liska has moved over to the newly created Cold Case department in order to have a better schedule to spend time with her boys. Nevertheless, there is enough interaction and we are introduced to Kovac's handsome new trainee (assume he wil stay on in later books). I can't say that I'm a superfan, having only read one other of their books, but, I like the characters enough and that's the important thing once a series continues on.

I love the John Corey series (Nelson DeMille) too. To me, he is on par with my favorite, Jack Reacher.
I just got Night School (Lee Child) after being on the hold list at the library. I haven't finished The Chemist (Stephenie Meyer) yet. Should I start Night School before I finish The Chemist? Decisions, decisions. ![]()

@chihuahuamom If neither can be renewed, I'd read the shorter one first.

@Alter Ego, I read The Bitter Season as well. It was my first book by Tami Hoag. I will read her again. I have had one or two of her books in my bookcase for a long time and, for some reason, I never read them. I enjoyed this one. LM

Well, Night School won out. I can't turn down Jack Reacher. So far, it's true Lee Child and I"m loving it. I will read The Chemist after.
