What E-reader device do you use?

I hope this is not a frequently asked question as I looked and couldn't find anything on here that was current. I am considering going to an E-reader device. Looking for pros and cons or recommendations. Thank you!

Re: What E-reader device do you use?

I've been through a lot of Kindles but I love them.  Right now I have a Kindle Paperwhite.

For me the pros outweigh the cons.  I love that you can carry a huge library of books with you and it only weighs a few ounces.  It was great when I would travel to visit my mom in Florida often! I plan on bringing it with me the next time that I travel.

You can also adjust the font size or style which is a big help.   If you don't know the definition of a word just keep your finger on it and a dictionary with the word will pop up!  Unlike a magazine or a tablet there is no glare.  These are what come to mind.

As for the cons, lots of people like holding a real book which doesn't make a difference to me.  It's also not as easy to flip to a back page or see photos posted that you would in a regular book.

I can easily forget the name of the book that I'm reading since the name doesn't pop up at the top and I have to go into "my library " to see what I am currently reading.

I also love not having to deal with a stack of books when I am finished with them.

I have a few books on my iPad mini, but I prefer real books. An iPad or mini iPad can be used for lots of things other reading. I use mine to read and post here. I also play games, watch YouTube videos, stream shows, check news & weather, etc., all on my iPad mini.

I prefer a physical book, because I get my books from the library, and there are more copies of physical books than download licenses.  That being said, I have the library app and Kindle app on my iPad mini, and when I do want a digital book, I use the library app or Kindle app.

Re: What E-reader device do you use?

I've used an iPad for the past 7 or 8 years (maybe longer). I prefer my iPad to hard copy books because I can set the font size to one that's easier for me to read. While some of my friends borrow e-books from the library, I use Amazon's Kindle Unlimited feature to borrow books. I think there's a monthly charge, but I read enough books that it's worth it. You can borrow up to 10 books concurrently. Another advantage to the iPad is that I can perform many other functions besides reading on it. If you borrow e-books from a library, a friend who was a librarian told me you can put your device in Airplane mode and the library won't be able to pull ithe book back if you haven't finished reading it by the due date. I've never put this to the test, but it sounded interesting.

Re: What E-reader device do you use?

I have a Kindle Paperwhite and I love it.  I really like changing the size of the font.  And I read outside a lot, so I like the lack of glare.  No cons as far as I am concerned.  I have wondered about the new color version of Kindle, but it is too expensive to buy on a whim.  I subscribe to Kindle Unlimited and the selection of books just gets better and better all the time.

As for "real" books, I still use my public library for new books by my favorite authors because they are expensive on Amazon.  I can put them on reserve pre-publication and usually get them when they first come out that way.  But I have no nostalgia for "the feel of a book" and I have no desire to collect books.

Re: What E-reader device do you use?

My first ereader was a Nook from Barnes and Noble, then I switched to a Samsung tablet, then to an ipad.  I ordered a Kindle once but returned it.  I was used to the flexibility of the ipad.......reading emails, FB, youtube, etc.  I'm actually thinking of upgrading from my 11 inch to a 13 inch.

When I purchase my ipads, I get the ones with wifi and cellular.......so calls/texts from my iphone come thru.

Kindle Paperwhite!  No complaints, but I'm not fond of the one with color.  I don't like to read on an IPad, but enjoy looking at magazines and cookbooks and oversized books of all kinds on them.

Kindle Oasis. They don't sell this one anymore and it is, in my opinion, the very best one. It has a click you can use to turn pages.

I have a Kindle - forget the version but I've had it for 13 or 14 years.  I never use it anymore.  I read on my iPad or Macbook Air.  And before the Macbook I read on my Dell laptop. Before I got my iPad I did love the Kindle for travel or anywhere outside of my. house.
