kindle paperwhite, I bought it a few months ago. I like the portability. Also the long battery life. When I read with the kindle app on my Samsung tablet, the battery gets used up much faster. I love physical books too.

@Carmie  why didn't you like the kindle ?

I suppose my iPad was easier to use.  I could multitask on it.  It's been a while.  I remember just not wanting to use it.  It sat unused for months until my daughter asked if she could have it.

I also like the fact that I could just read whenever I wanted to.  I have  two iPads.  I carry the mini in my handbag. It was so convenient to read while waiting for an appointment and I check e-mails at the same time.

i know the kindle can be used in the same way, but it was a PIA to get used to.

I prefer a physical book, which i borrow from the library. However, when I travel I use either my Kindle Mini or my I-Pad. Much easier then lugging around hard copy books.

@haddon9

I also have a Paperwhite Kindle. For me, I was desparate because I was unable to read anything.

All the books I owned I gave away to the library.

I wss unexectedly diagnosed with a eye disease and was/am losing sight.

DH bought me the Kindle and I did not want him to do that.

Nonetheless, he did and when I finally got over my shock of the diagnosis, I started to figure the Kindle out.

I am now once again able to see, read and reread my favorite American author, Thomas Wolfe. I was so happy to use this that I cried, when I downloaded the book in about 5 seconds!!

@Flatbush I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis and I hope that you don't lose any more sight.  That must be very difficult.

I love my Kindle along with all of its many features. Your DH sounds like a wonderful husband who wants to do what he can so even though you didin't want a Kindle it seems like it is working well for you at this time.

I'm glad it's working out for you. Best wishes!

Kindle Oasis. They don't sell this one anymore and it is, in my opinion, the very best one. It has a click you can use to turn pages.

@Goldengate8361 Yes I still have one.  It had some advantages.  I would LOVE to have a new one that has the improved screen and is just a little bit bigger.

Re: What E-reader device do you use?

Hi Growing:  I'm really late to this thread but just saw it....if you haven't already decided on getting (or no) an e-reader, one plus I haven't seen mentioned but that I LOVE is the ability to download a sample of any book that catches your interest, for free. Usually it's quite a big sample so you really get a feel whether or not you like/dislike it. I think it's saved me few time from wasting money and/time. Also, should you decide to buy one, consider getting the one with smaller storage (which is hundreds of books). It's not as expensive and all your books are stored in your Amazon kindle books purchased library so in the u likely event, as they say on the plane, you fill up your kindle, you just delete them from the device and they'll be on Amazon account if you want them again. I've had them since they came out, have two. One lives in my purse and one at home. Never been sorry. Please let us know what you decide?

Re: What E-reader device do you use?

Flatbush, I am sorry to hear about your eye disease and losing your sight. Just wanted to say that my husband is almost totally blind and we do a book club together. It is on "Accessible World" and there are several. People get hooked up with the USA national audio library called BARD and they listen to the books for free. Husband is a tech genius on the iPhone. He had many years of not working due to his eye disease and then big time depression, no money, etc. We married after that time period and now he teaches visually impaired folks as a volunteer. Your state will have help learning assistive technology if you are interested. There is a whole wonderful world out there even with visual impairment.

Detachment isn't the absence of love but the ability to take care of yourself in the midst of someone else's choices.
