I bought this book upon seeing it in this forum.....and I have yet to finish it- and it's not because it's boring either.  It is emotionally gripping and difficult to read. To summarize, to say it's about man's inhumanity to man is an understatement.

This is not a "feel good" book.

When I do finally finish it, I can tell you it's one of those books I will probably never read again.  The raw emotion and graphic violence will be branded into me-the author's intention I am sure.....

Re: The Underground Railroad

The Underground Railroad is a very popular book title. Do you mean the one by Colson Whitehead or another book by this name?

Re: The Underground Railroad

@Poodlepet2 I'm pretty sure you are referring to the book by Colson Whitehead  (since it's about slavery).  I have the book on hold, but after your review I'm going to skip it.

Re: The Underground Railroad

Yes- I should have listed the author who is indeed Colson Whitehead.

It is very well written, and I know this is a very ugly chapter in history,  and I do believe we must never forget- but I feel so affected by it.

I like to read in bed, but my strategy for finishing this book is to read it during the day, and read something more upbeat at night.

@smoky22 how strange. I was just going to post the very same thing. The book is on reserve, with about 3 people ahead of me. I think I'm going to skip it when it's available.

Books about the holocaust and about slavery are sometimes too much for me to bear. Especially at this particular time, I need books to pick me up, not bring me down.

Re: The Underground Railroad

It's a good book but you need something light, fluffy & fun to read afterwards or else you will be depressed for a while.
