After seeing so many TV commercials about the Revenant movie coming out next month, I went in search of the book and found it on Amazon, excellent reviews. Supposed to be a true story, ordered one for me and one for a gift. I much prefer books to movies. Have you read it? What did you think?

It looks interesting.  Not sure if I'll watch the movie or read the book. I rarely do both.    Books tend to be so much more detailed.

I've seen the film and it's amazing. Best film of the year, in my opinion. Not for the faint of heart as it takes place in a wild/wooly period of time, but the acting and cinematography is exceptional. This HAS to be Leo's Oscar win.

I'm rubbing my hands together in anticipation! It looked good from the commercials, but your review @Katesbff put me over the edge. Can't wait for both book and movie.

If you have the time to read an interesting article, click below. It is the story of the first book written about Hugh Glass, the hero in the Revenant, written by Frederick Manfred. The original work is displayed at a college in my hometown, info I was surprised to learn.

I finished the book last night.  Wow!  Talk about the will to survive!!!!  A quick, enjoyable read.  Now I am more eager to see the film.

I didn't realize it was a book. Off I go to see if it's available at the online library. Thanks!

@MaggieMack

I think reading the book was an excellent idea.  My husband loves to read and I should have thought of getting him the book.

After much encouragement from our older son and his wife, we went to see this film.  We felt it was excellent and quite an eye opener about this period of time

involving the European-American fur trading and expansion.  The brutality of this period is probably pretty accurate.  I'm not sure if you see films after reading books, and I agree, books are almost always better...but I highly recommend

this.  Inarritu's films are really good.
