you can buy protective plastic sleeves designed to protect Kindles, even from falling into a bathtub.

unless there's a major windstorm blowing sand or you set the Kindle onto the sand, there would be no issues even without a protective sleeve.

take it and enjoy!

@knittykitty  Thank you for telling me about the protective plastic sleeves.  I found some on ebay and ordered them.

@knittykitty  I just came back to let you know that I found protective sleeves on Ebay and ordered them.  They arrived today and it looks like they will work well.  Thank you for telling me about them.

I’ve taken my Kindle almost everywhere, but I’ve never taken it onto the beach. I would think sand getting into it would cause problems, though. My suggestion for a low-tech solution to your problem is to put it into a gallon-sized Ziplock plastic bag and read it through the clear plastic. I think you’d be able to manipulate the controls through it.

This. It also works for reading a Kindle in the bathtub.

You can also use Glad Press'n Seal to cover the charging port, speakers, and the screen if you're worried about sand but not water.

yes...always take Kindle to beach and pool!  I put Kindle in a ziploc bag and it won't get wet or get sand in it.  I also have an old Vera Bradley kindle cover that I put it in and put in my beach bag when I'm not reading...never had a problem with it getting overheated.

If you are reading it out in the hot sunshine be sure and place it face down when you take a break. I left mine face up and the opening page warped in the heat! Then would not close and turn off. I brought it in fast and put some heavy real books on it and let it cool off....now fine but a few more minutes it would have been toast.

i take my tablet and my phone to the pool and beach. i usually am listening to music or sometimes checking my emails. i also bring a book and magazines (because i have a lot of subscriptions and that is the best place to catch up.)

i also use the waterproof sleeves for my electronic devices.
