I've never taken my Kindle to the beach but would like to this summer.  Does sand damage the Kindle?  I would buy a regular book if this is a problem.  I stay on the beach more than beside the pool.

YES, sand will do big time damage to your Kindle that cannot be fixed. Take a book Smiley Happy And having a Kindle out in hot sun for long periods will also damage it.

I learned a lot from reading the Kindle forums. Hope this helps!

@NickNack, I have also found with my Kindle Fire 10 that I cannot read outdoors.  I would pick up a few paperbacks and then leave them in the hotel lobby.  If you are not staying in a hotel, many other places also have libraries.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!

I’ve taken my Kindle almost everywhere, but I’ve never taken it onto the beach. I would think sand getting into it would cause problems, though. My suggestion for a low-tech solution to your problem is to put it into a gallon-sized Ziplock plastic bag and read it through the clear plastic. I think you’d be able to manipulate the controls through it.

One reason I got my Kindle Paperwhite was to take it to the beach. I have been taking it for years with no issues.  It adjusts the light and I can read in full sunshine. It also allows me to have multiple books when I go on vacation. I  also use it in the dark when my husband is sleeping and I am wide awake. Love it. Would highly recommend.

you can buy protective plastic sleeves designed to protect Kindles, even from falling into a bathtub.

unless there's a major windstorm blowing sand or you set the Kindle onto the sand, there would be no issues even without a protective sleeve.

take it and enjoy!

I have taken my Kindle to the beach for years, no issues whatsoever.  I don't lay it down in the sand, or get any sand on it.  It's been to the beach over and over, hot weather...no problem.  In fact, this is the first I'm ever hearing that it could be an issue with heat or taking it to the beach.

I have taken my Kindle to the beach, but couldn't read the screen.  Mine is an older model, maybe the newer ones would work.

Take reasonable care, take an insulated freezer style grocery bag to keep it in when you are in the sun and leave it in the shade and you should be fine. I always take mine to the beach.
