Cheat Day, by Liv Stratman.  Cheat day for eating or cheat day on your spouse, or both?  One woman's battle with food, love and where her real happiness within herself lies.

Just finished Shadow Box by Luanne Rice. I enjoyed this book!  It a complicated story revolving around men in powerful positions who lead lives of entitlement and will take any means to assure that their true selves is never revealed.  Sum it up by stating People only show you want they want you to see but behind closed doors their true personalities are revealed!

I just finished Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg which I enjoyed a lot. Now I will have to seek out the movie to watch-I hope it won't be a disappointment after the book.

I also read One By One by Ruth Ware. It was good; but no one tells a locked room mystery like the expert, Agatha Christie. She sets the bar pretty high.

@abbalulu

I really enjoyed the movie from years ago. One of the Stars was Kathy Bates.

@abbalulu  I don't think you will be disappointed. This is one of my favorite movies. Watch it every time it's on.

Re: SEPTEMBER 2021 LET'S HEAR ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE READING

"The Neighbor" by Joseph Souza: didn't finish the book.

Leah and Clay move from Seattle to Maine. Clay is involved in his brewery and, Leah is bored staying at home with the twins. She becomes obsessed with her neighbors, Clarissa and Russell, who seem to live a glamorous lifestyle. So much that Leah sneaks into their house, stealing small pieces of art and reading Clarissa's diary. There seems to be a conneciton between Clarissa and a missing college student.

This could have been good, but the author got too political about racism, climate change, social justice, LBGTQ rights, etc. Nothing wrong with mentioning such things if it's necessary,  except this was overdone where it didn't  seem to fit the narrative. I felt like I was being lectured.

The characters weren't interesting. Leah was annoying and both she and Clay were forever drinking too much.  The book just wasn't well written IMO and I wonder how it even got published.

The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams.  I hit a reading slump and picked this book up and it is wonderful!  It has reinvigorated my reading and anyone who loves books and reading will love it!  I highly recommend!

Re: SEPTEMBER 2021 LET'S HEAR ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE READING

I just finished Parachute by Kelly Yang.  It's about Chinese students who come to the U.S to go to High School & about a first generation immigrant from the Philipines whose father walked out when she was a baby.  The main characters are Dani & Claire.

That book broke me.  It deals with the homesickness, loneliness  & discrimination the Chinese students experience.  The fact that the parents send them to a strange country where they don't know anybody.

It deals with other big subjects such as rape & Sexual harrassment.

If you plan on reading this, don't let the cutsie cover fool you!

Re: SEPTEMBER 2021 LET'S HEAR ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE READING

I also finished listening to THE READING LIST by Sara Nisha Adams.I agree that it was a pleasant read, even though it had some serious themes. For my Audible friends, the narrator's accents were actually pretty awesome, especially Aleisha's and her dropped "t's".  In an aside, it made me realize that I actually recently curated my own "reading list" as I pulled together books for my mother to read at the beginning of the pandemic.

It took a long time, but I also finally finished reading VICTIM 2117 by Jussi Adler Olsen, which was the the latest in the Department Q series.  I usually like the relationship between the two male leads - and this novel answers some questions about one's mysterious past.  But, I don't think recent books have been very strong.  Maybe now wasn't the right time to pick up a book with a terrorist storyline?

Waiting for Liane Moriarty's novel to drop mid-month.  In the meantime, I was inspired by the tri-wow review for The Good Sister.  So far liking it, but think I'll finish soon and will need to find another short one before Liane's.
