Nook Free Friday- January 2021

Happy New Year @Stargazer77 and @ceekay and everyone else here!

The Free Friday selection today is The Whistle Blower by Robin Merrill.

Bad guys beware: There's a soccer mom on your trail.

Work-at-home-mom Sandra's life is a whirlwind of activity. So, why's she so bored?

When a referee drops dead during her son's soccer game, and a short man claiming to be an angel asks her to help investigate--suddenly, her life's not such a routine.

The angel (is he really an angel?) tells her to go undercover as a soccer referee, which, of course, is ridiculous. She hasn't run anywhere since high school.

But Sandra will find out she is still capable of far more than she thought--with a little help from above.

Broken Ascension by Dave Walsh

The war is over, and there are no winners. Just a broken galaxy.

Now humans and aliens must share this war-torn galaxy. None of this matters to Drake, though, he's just an artist. He's tagging along on the busted up ship Trystero, along with its ragtag crew. Together, they traverse the Demilitarized Zone between Terran and Gra'al borders, taking on any job they can find. Big or small. Human or alien.

The galaxy changes when the crew encounters a derelict alien ship, its crew slaughtered. With his dying breath, a crewman points them to a box. In it? An abandoned alien baby. When their government refuses to get involved, Drake and the crew need to return the baby they've been calling Bruce home, a bloodthirsty warlord on their tail.

His quest? Find Bruce and claim the Gra'al throne, declaring a new war on humanity.

Drake never wanted to be a hero... now he's all that stands in the way of a fragile peace between humans and aliens.

Death On The Diversion (Secret Sleuth, Book 1) by Patricia McLinn

Final resting place? Deck chair.
Death on the Diversion is the start of a new cozy mystery series from a USA Today bestselling author.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Sheila Mackey has a secret. To the world, she's author of a blockbuster book. Her wily great-aunt, the actual author, orchestrated this mutually beneficial masquerade. Now the aunt's retiring and Sheila must draft Act Two of her own life. This cruise is supposed to be the perfect time to do that.
Crossing the Atlantic on the Diversion, Sheila finds a dead body on deck.
She realizes she knows a whole lot more about the interactions of the victim and suspects than the ship's officials do. She's drawn into sleuthing, but finds herself hampered by a well-meaning but overprotective would-be Doctor Watson.
This murder mystery with humor is the first book in a new series, Secret Sleuth. In later books, amateur sleuth Sheila returns to dry land in the Midwest, where mysteries abound in her new home in small-town Kentucky.

If you like mysteries about the inner world of writers, set among the insular cruise ship community, where even the sleuth has secrets she's hiding (and a dog to come in book two), then you'll love award-winning Patricia McLinn's newest whodunit with humor.
