What Grace Means to Me

by ‎12-21-2011 12:01 PM - edited ‎07-08-2016 12:51 PM

The definition of Grace is undeserved favor.  Simple. I immediately think of the ultimate in Grace; Gods Grace.  But more than just a spiritual word, I think It is what we should all strive to show others.  Most of us would say that we really don’t always deserve all the gifts and blessings we have been given. That is Grace.  Because grace is something I try and incorporate in my daily life, the Philosophy line became one of my favorites about six years ago.

I loved the messages on the bottles, the soap and water clean smell of Pure Grace and the slightly feminine scent of Amazing Grace.  About 13 years ago on our third date (we moved fast), my soon to be husband and I talked about kids names and we both agreed on Grace right out of the gate.  This was one of the many reasons I knew we were made for each other.  We were engaged six months later.

7 years ago we finally brought home our Grace.

She was born in early summer, three weeks early (surprise, Dad was on a plane and missed the birth) to a young woman who chose us to be her parents. That is Grace.  She is a miracle.  I had a miscarriage in my late 20’s, and then my husband and I had unexplained infertility.  We tried for three years to get pregnant. Those years were the darkest of my life. We did two IUI’s and one IVF.  My brother is adopted, as is my sister in law, so after diligent prayer adoption became an easy decision for us.  We were matched within four months. Very quick. But, our adoption was not an easy one.  It was an emotionally, financially and even physically draining five months of waiting for Grace. But, by the grace of God, six months after Grace was born a judge signed his name to her new birth certificate and made her one hundred percent ours.

God’s plan had always been for her to be our baby, no matter how hard the road was… and could be ahead.  So you can imagine when Philosophy came out with Baby Grace every family member, friend, viewer ( I was a TV weather caster)  sent us gifts of Baby Grace lotion, perfume, body spray, body wash… If you haven’t tried it I hope once you finally do you will imagine my baby Grace as you take your first smell. It is sweet, but not sugar, truly smells like a new infant.

I don’t know how Philosophy did it, but they managed to bottle that new baby scent.  I have heard that children want to cuddle more with a caretaker that wears it.  Teachers say it endears them to their students.  I will always associate that smell, with that time in my life when Grace was realized; both the child and the act.   Now I get to sell the Philosophy line and I can honestly say it is one of my favorite products we carry.  In fact, on my third audition I chose to sell Philosophy’s Fields Of Flowers.  The smell is romantic and it happens to be my favorite scent in the line.  It must also be good luck because I got the job!

What is your favorite Philosophy product?  Favorite Scent? I know those are easy questions but this one might be a bit harder.  What does Grace mean to you?  By the way, when the judge signed Grace’s new birth certificate that December morning he did it in front of the four of us; me, my husband, Grace and her new baby sister Georgia.  I’ll save that story for another day.

Wishing you Grace,

Kerstin
