Is it really December already? My father often used to say, "Enjoy it while you can" — because as you get a little older, in so many ways, time seems to fly by. I look in the mirror each morning and still somehow expect to see that fresh-faced kid with a full head of hair staring back at me. Where did he go? I don't feel any older. Sure, there are days when that bad knee from an earlier baseball injury shows some physical signs of getting older (ok, to tell the truth, I fell off the bench while reaching for a Gatorade, but that's not the important part of the story).
I hope I'm a bit wiser than before. I still make more than my share of mistakes, but now I try harder not to make the SAME mistakes twice. And this may be the most important thing I've learned: time is not a right; it's a gift. And a gift that goes unused is a little disrespectful to the giver. Ever heard the expression,
"Making time to do something"? Well, the fact is we can't make time…it's always there for us to grasp hold of. Squeeze as much out of it as possible, and always remember that we're all given the same amount of it. That's Mother Nature's true sense of equality. We all get 24 hours in each day and 7 days in every week. And we make the decisions that impact whether those minutes add up to something we're pleased with or possibly hold regrets because of.
I love my Sundays with Carolyn and Gabrielle and our viewers. Sure, getting up that early is sometimes tough, but when we get to the studio and things get rolling, it becomes a day where laughter is heard and friendships are either created or built upon. That, in my book, is a good day. Time well spent.
