The Peanuts!

"My life has no purpose, no direction, no aim, no meaning, and yet I'm happy. I can't figure it out. What am I doing right?"

Well, apparently the author of the quote, Charles Schulz, did plenty right. Although given his wit and sarcasm, it’s hard to tell just how much of that quote he truly felt. I can’t imagine you aren’t familiar with the work of Charles Schulz, but just in case, he was the creator of the lovable Peanuts characters, nearly 18,000 comic strips, and 47 cartoon specials featuring Snoopy and the gang.

The work of Schulz made an impact on countless people, including adults as well as children. Even to this day, his works continue to be enjoyed. I am so excited about the new movie, which will be in theaters beginning November 6th and the products we now have here at QVC (more coming tomorrow at 11am ET)

I think everyone can identify with at least one of the Peanuts characters. Who “are” you? Are you a little bossy, short-tempered and full of a nickel’s worth of advice like Lucy? Are you loyal and sometimes colorful like Snoopy? Are you a tad bit insecure yet intelligent and aware of important happenings in the world like Linus, are you a bit messy, yet secure with who you are like Pigpen, or are you resilient and never give up like Charlie Brown? I guess, in the end, we all probably possess a little bit of personality from each character …. and maybe that’s just one of the many reasons why they are so loveable and relatable – even to  this day. (You have to remember, Charlie Brown was “born” in 1950.) We see ourselves in them and naturally, we are drawn in.

It was about 20 years ago when I got the news I would be selling Peanuts merchandise on QVC. I was both honored and excited. As it turned out, we did several shows; however, I only met Charles Schulz one time. He never came to QVC, but he was on one of our shows that took place at the Mall of America in Minnesota. In fact, he had a whole gallery of his artwork there. Schulz was quiet and kind with a dry sense of humor that I appreciated.

Here’s another terrific quote from Schulz, which I love and agree with:

“If I were given the opportunity to present a gift to the next generation, it would be the ability for each individual to learn to laugh at himself.” If you ever get the chance, do take a look at Schulz’s quotes online. Just like the man, and the cartoon characters, his quotes are insightful, profound, intelligent and humorous. Schulz is missed, but he will live on for generations to come in his great works.
