I Have Finally Recovered!

Another Santa Fe Indian Market has come and gone.  It is always a little sad to see the Santa Fe plaza empty of its 900 artist booths and our friends on their way to the airport.  What an amazing weekend it was!  In the words of Cippy CrazyHorse, Santa Fe Indian Market is like a huge reunion.  All of the finest Native American artists from across the country prepare for months in order to present their best work to collectors from around the world.  Over 100,000 people gather on the plaza for two festive days.

I love the excitement upon entering the plaza at 7:00am, the anticipation of reuniting with artists and friends we have met through Indian Market over the past 17 years that we have been involved.  It is always fun to see you, our QVC collectors, gathering in the very busy booths of our family of Native American jewelry designers we are so honored to work with: Veronica Benally, Fritz Casuse, Cippy CrazyHorse,  Wanesia Misquadace, Myron Panteah, Veronica Poblano, Cody Sanderson and Roderick Tenorio.  If you missed our very busy Indian Market Southwestern Jewelry Special on August 14th, you can still enjoy the incredible designer pieces we featured, as well as some beautiful video footage of our Native American artists in their studios by going to the Santa Fe Indian Market page on qvc.com.

Bill and I sponsor the Best of Jewelry award as well as the premiere Gala Auction.  The auction is the biggest fundraiser of the year for SWAIA (Southwestern Association for Indian Arts).  I am moved to tears each year as I preview the donated pieces by award-winning artists.  Their generosity is truly remarkable as the pieces they have donated to be auctioned would easily have sold in their booths for their own profit.  But each of these artists will tell me that SWAIA has genuinely changed their lives, and they feel it is important to give back so that future artists will have the same opportunities to showcase their work to the world.

One of the amazing jewelry pieces donated to the auction was a necklace by our friend Veronica Poblano.  I am proud to say this is now in my collection!  And notice how the bracelet we created for QVC is perfect with the original necklace. Would you like one?  There are a few available on QVC.com.

Here are a few of the magic moments from the 2011 Santa Fe Indian Market.  I hope that someday I will meet you on the plaza.  I’ll recognize you by your jewelry!

Sincerely,

Carolyn
