Is anyone familiar with YT analytics? I know just a little but I don't know the answer to the following question. I know that YT doesn't base the success of a video based on the amt of views it gets. It's based on how many people FINISH watching the video. Was the video interesting/entertaining enough to keep you till the end?
I'm not always interested in watching a vid to the end for a variety of reasons but after learning that it affects the YTer, I want to leave a positive result for them/support them by watching the entire vid. SO I've been dragging the time slider thingy to the end if I don't watch to the end. Still with me?
Does YT see my view as watched to the end if I slide the time line thingy to the end?

YouTube tracks everything in Channel Analytics. There are different markers of success, especially for ad-based content. They track the average time length watched, so if you're watching for only a couple seconds of their video you may be bringing their average down. Something else they track is if you click on a video thumbnail presented at the end slide of the video. So if you want to help your YouTuber you should click on a video and start watching the next video.

I watched a whole video about it,
but TBH can't remember much
I watch what I want and stop if it's boring, too much "hi guys, welcome to my channel , hand wave" etc

@jackthebear I'm finding many of YTers I've followed are either getting repetitive, copying the same subjects as others, doing " collabs" (not liking all abbreviations). How long does it take to say the complete word...especially annoying from older youtubers trying to seem hip.
I do know, that personally, I'm apt to click off if a video is sponsored and it takes half the video time to gush over the products described. I don't click the "thumbs up" anymore until I check the content.
I'm following fewer makeup videos but have always followed many artists. I've dropped those reviewing clothing and "challenges to make up a capsule wardrobe" or those who preach minimalist purchasing of all goods and buying only at thrift shops. Many of the clothing videos are how to look younger, what you're doing wrong, etc. At my age, I find it insulting for a 30 yr. old to tell me how to dress or do makeup to look 50.

I watch a couple You Tubers, but if I find someone annoying or uninteresting, there is no need to watch the whole video. Why would I support someone I don't care about?
I have fast forwarded to the end, and if it affects the person's statistics, so be it. I only watch the complete video if I find some kind of connection with the person.

I've watched a couple of videos on how these people make money doing this because that always interested me. Some of them seem to be doing very VERY well for themselves.
Anyhow, one of the things I got out of it was watching the ads that are played during a video also helps the Youtuber out. I still skip over them when given the option.
Some of these videos are one sponsorship after another and that is a huge turn-off to me, especially when they seem to be promoting the product only because they were sponsored. Otherwise you never hear a peep out of them about the product or see them use it again.
That's why I like Emily Noel so much. She does no sponsored videos at all.

Thanks for the info. What do you think/know about pulling the red line thingy/time indicator all the way to the end if you don't want to watch till the end? Does YT see that as a fully watched video?
I have never ever seen a YT ad and never knew it was a thing till I saw it on my husband's phone. That would drive me crazy! I found out the reason I didn't (prior to subscribing) was due to ad-block software. I wasn't aware the software worked on videos. Of course now that I pay for YT videos/music (on all 13 of the Google Nest Hubs in the house), I don't see or hear any ads. I've had ad-block software a lot longer than I've had YT so ads have never been a thing

You do realize you don't have to watch all the sponsored stuff, right? Just drag the red timeline thingy to skip it. I even do this hands free if I'm watching/listening on the Nest Hubs. For example I'll say "Hey Google, skip ahead 45 seconds".

There may be multiple reasons I don't finish a video. Maybe I'm not interested after all but still like and don't want to hurt the YTer's "grade" for lack of a better word, with You Tube. I'm going to give a thumbs up and drag the timeline thingy for 95% of the vids I watch. I don't want to hurt any creator unless it's just vile or really really really poorly done. I used to watch a makeup YTer but had to unsubscribe after she lost her everloving mind and went on a literal tyraid, dropping the F-bomb every other word! It was crazy! I left a simple "YUCK!, unsubscribed" comment.
