Re: Why Can't I Find A Good Foundaton

Here's another vote for Chanel. As I've gotten older I've switched to their different formulas, and now that I'm retired, I usually only use it when I have a special event.  But it's the one that always suprised me when I tilt the car mirror to check makeup when getting in the car.  I always think, gee I look good today, what did I do - the answer is always Chanel foundation.

When going on vacation last year, I wanted something non-liquid so I could carry it on the plane and with a substantial SPF.  I tried IT Confidence in a compact and like it. I use a light hand - or brush - as too much makes me look like a corpse.   I get the light, and warm it up with a bit of Balance and Brighten over the top.

You know how they can match your color of paint when you go to a paint store?? Why can't someone do this for foundation??!!

Actually, many times they CAN do this!  I was color matched for foundation at the Estee Lauder counter for Double Wear with a small device that electronically "read" my skin tone in several places and then came up with the correct foundation match, which indeed was perfect.

Right now I am LOVING Lancome Teinte Idole Ultra liquid or cushion foundation in 110C Ivoire for my very fair skin.  Amazing foundation, and for any that you get at a cosmetics counter with testing/matching, ask for a sample to try for a few days at home.

Re: Why Can't I Find A Good Foundaton

I bet 99% of the lovely ladies posting here/upthread

don’t even need a foundation!

With any product, I visualize a ‘heart’ in the

middle of my face & never extend.

If I use concealer, I just extend it to my nose & cheeks.

It’s like that ‘triangle of light’ I hear ladies talk about.

When I hear ‘full’ coverage, I cringe.

It’s almost always way too much product & it’s very visible.

Just lightly apply in the middle & thin/fan out to the edges.

Less is more, Beautiful Ladies!

Another vote for L'Oreal True Match

@Desertdi, I was thinking of giving this a try. Funny enough I was watching The View and Whoopi was doing a segment of her favorite things. She mentioned this foundation and how it has a large range of shades ( I was surprised she uses it in her private life as she doesn't seem to be much into makeup). As for exfoliating I do it about three times a week.

Re: Why Can't I Find A Good Foundaton

I have combination skin, oily in the tzone, especially in the summer....My 3 favorites are:

Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion

Georgio Armani Luminous Silk

Becca Full Coverage

I apply with a Beauty Blender sponge, all with the exception of Georgio Armani's, because that one is super creamy and no need to apply with a sponge, unless you really want to...They are all expensive, but they are good foundations! Good Luck in your search. Maybe you can get samples of a few that you are interested in....

@Jordan2

Good morning I think foundation is probably one of the hardest thing to get. I will soon be 55 and have oily skin too. I have been loving Alima Pure satin matte mineral foundation . They have 45 shades in 5 color families COOL, NEUTRAL, BEIGE ,WARM AND OLIVE

They sell pre-packaged kits or you can  buy individual samples for about 2 dollars each  . You can even do what I did and email a makeup artist and upload a photo . I have redness in some areas and spots from old acne marks . Within 48 -72 hours they email you back with recommendations from the different color families . The finish gives skin a beautiful and does not settle in fine lines or large pores . Good luck in your search

Re: Why Can't I Find A Good Foundaton

What @Shanus said. You need a department store person to assist you. A lot of foundations that are liquid have either sunscreen or moisturizer. That might be making you look dewy. You may want to consider a matte finish or even a powder foundation.

After sampling the foundation chosen, ask for a sample for home if liquid. Many times foundations oxidize or the MU person has chosen the incorrect color for you. Going out in natural sunlight will quickly tell you if you have the right color on.

Keep in mind, during warmer months, if outside frequently, you may have to adjust your foundation to another color fo blend better with your tan.

I wish I had a Sephora and Nordstrom near me to try out some foundations. I do have an Ulta, but my store isn't very good and the salespeople are not helpful at all.

@CANDLEQUEEN  I too am in LOVE with Mercier's Flawless Fusion Fluid.  This was the original one she came out with which is now discontinued.  She has revamped it to be her Flawless Fusion Long Wear which I do not care for as much, thicker.  The original was so fluid, it became one with your skin - textureless.  Is this the one you love or is it the newer one?  I am using the original so sparingly so as to make it last.

Love Armani's as well.  Becca, not so much. Smiley Happy

@fitfuninformed. I too have the original, and use it very sparingly. I did have a sample of the newest one, and it is a bit thick, If I were to use that one, I would definitely apply with a damp sponge.

Armani is my all time favorite-just worth every penny of the 64.00....

Becca-I received a great color match for me, and I do use a damp sponge, because it is a little more coverage than I generally like..
