@SilleeMee wrote:The order in which sunscreen is applied depends on whether it's mineral (physical) or if it's chemical (organic).
Chemical sunscreens need to be applied to clean skin preferably on top of vitamin C serum which protects the skin from free radicals produced upon exposure to UV light.
Mineral sunscreens are applied on top of all skincare products, including moisturizers, and under primers.
ETA-
Combination sunscreen products such as moisturizers or makeup containing SPF should be applied according to instructions given per product....instructions can vary.
@SilleeMee ITA, but broken record here: please don't count the spf in foundation as your only sunscreen. It's never enough as the recommended two finger amount suggested by derms. Also, makeup isn't covering your neck and chest.
I go by the thinner to thicker theory: Cleanser, serums, moisturizer, sunscreen and then primers.
***I usually do not wear primer since my foundation does not usually stay on for more than 6 or 7 hrs. and I don't have texture.
Primers are a good way to seal in your skincare, keep it on for long, hot summer days, I apply primers after skincare and before my suncreen. I use BB Vitamin Enriched Face base which is a gel moisturizer, but contains a primer. Any product that hits two steps is a win for me.

Yes! Exactly. Then there's the problem with reapplication of sunscreens. Lots of misconceptions about that, too.

@SilleeMee Shocker! I do not reapply sunscreen during the day and I'm one of those very fair "Nicole Kidman's of the world" Q refers to.
To reapply, makeup has to come off and start from the beginning....serums applied that morning are wasted, etc. I do wear a wide brimmed hat if in direct sun for any length of time and my spf is 50 or higher. There is a powder spf in a container with attached brush (can't think of the name) that can be applied over existing makeup.

That's what I would use on top of makeup also...a powder dust-on SPF. I believe Colorscience makes a very good one. SPF 50!

@SilleeMee Ah, Colorscience. The name escaped me, but use this on brides with oudoor weddings. Certainly cannot do a makeup "do over" on them.
I think Jane Iredale may have one similar, too.

Yes I totally agree @Dusty1 . Honest answers that come from her extensive education and willingness to share. I have also noted how humble @SilleeMee is. Considering her credentials she rarely if ever shares them unless asked. We are so lucky to have her here.🌺💐💕
