This is just an inquiry about fading hair color.   I have been a WEN user for several years now, but my color still fades.   Is this common?  He claims NOT.   My hairdresser is a really good one and a great colorist, but even after 6 weeks, my color is different.  Just asking if anyone else has experienced this?

I don't presently color my hair, although I have in the past, before using Wen. I do know that water itself can cause a great deal of fading.

There's some great explanations in Internet land for the damage water does to not only your hair color but the hair itself and, of course, because I want to find them right now, I can't Smiley Very Happy There's even damage done while air drying your hair vs. blow drying, it's just a different form.

Are you using any kind of protective product after you cleanse?

@Naturally...I can't see how hair coloring wouldn't fade...even when using WEN religiously, with the water we use, and the sun, hair color does fade, natural or not.  I remember as a kid, my hair would get these glorious light golden streaks and my hair did get lighter as well (my natural hair color was med/dark brown) during the summer from natures colorist the 🌞...so unless you only go out at night, hair color will fade to a lighter shade😎

WeN is supposed to be used with cool water too, so that will cut down on the amount of color loss.  Chaz never discusses water temperature in his presentations.  If you are using warm/hot water to wash, that's going to open the hair cuticle and color will wash out.  I also think there's some normal color washout if you're using very dark dyes.

I don't have color fading at all with WEN but I never did even with other products I used before WEN. I do NOT use cool or cold water when I wash either, I am pretty much a hot water gal when I wash with maybe a quick cool splash at the end if it is warm out but if it is cold I don't even bother.

I think the quality of water (hard water or highly chlorinated water will strip hair color more/faster and/or make it look duller or brassier), the type of color used and hair type all play a part in if your color will fade as well as what you use to wash your hair.

Sometimes, it is your water supply. You may want to install a shower head with a good filter. In addition, is your hair red? Red is notorious for fading.

I have light brown hair that is color treated and I have no fading.....even at the 6th week when I usually go for a touch up.

I've been coloring my hair red for nearly 20 years now and it always fades, no matter what. I use box dyes from the story and nothing professional, but I'm not sure it would make much difference with red.

I know Chaz says "we haven't run color through the ends of Model X's hair for over a year, only the roots," but I just don't see how that's possible with some of them.  If I only did my roots every 5 weeks, they would never match the rest of my hair. The color I have the day I color and the color I have 5 weeks later just isn't the same and I don't think all the WEN in the world would change that.

I only get my roots touched up and have for at least 15 years now and  the color at the ends stays the exact same . But again, that was true even pre-WEN and I do have a water filter on my showerhead. My color is a light blonde with my normal hair color being a dark blonde. I think that plays a part as well.

I've colored my hair since I was a teen and I've been every color including pink. When I used shampoo, my color faded and I had to run color through my ends. Since I started using Wen 4 years ago, I only color my roots. My color doesn't fade. I'm not coloring my hair red though, the red dye is a smaller molecule and fades/rinses out easier than brown and black.

Thanks for the tips everyone.  I appreciate the input.   I am pretty grey but have dark roots and blonde hightlights.   Pretty typical.  Local water supply.
