@Pook wrote:It seems to me that it only is quite depressing if you allow it to be and can't see how it relates to insecurity. Those that proclaim this could also be seen as really insecure but trying to convince themselves that they don't need any products to help with what happens to most of us. I know I have face hair and want to get rid of it. I had thinning hair and found products to help because you don't have to accept it or make excuses that you like the natural thinning hair look!! I have found so many products that have improved my skin and made it feel and look much better. The emjoi has helped with my rough and dry feet and that makes me feel great! I love my makeup and definitely am not insecure. To use the excuse that what God gave us should be good enough appears to be just a cop out and if that were the case why wear clothing as what God gave us should be good enough!!! If you don't like products to help with issues then just say so and don'try to insult those of us who like to make positive changes for our own benefit!!! Some might say those that choose not to buy and use products to improve their hair, skin, etc are just plain too lazy to even try and have just given up as they age!!! Please note this is not my personal belief just stating that for those that keep saying anyone who uses any inhancing products is insecure!!!
I never said that I don't wear makeup, sit back and let my brows grow over my eyes or let my peach fuzz look like a man's beard. The point of my OP was that once you find the products that work for you, watching these shows can make you feel that you need more and more.
Not buying into that, does not make me lazy. Quite the opposite. I'm very well groomed, just picky about which beauty products work and which have false promises that some insecure women believe will change their entire lives. I have a simple and effective skincare routine and the same goes for my hair and makeup. No one has ever accused me of not looking completely "done".
I think you're going a little overboard about not wearing clothing because what God gave us is good enough. Where did you get that from my OP? Changing bone structure w/ contouring, that when taken to extremes, is unnatural looking is more what I was referring to.
Yes, grooming is important, so is maintenance, but where does being bombarded w/ products and realizing a lot of this "stuff" is hype stop?

I agree the beauty shows go a little too far sometime We need to teach our young girls to put what is being sold into perspective. Also, teaching our girls about being healthy, smart and independent, instead of just wanting to be thin and blemish free.
Thank you. Exactly my point.

I like to look my best for me. Not for somebody else or look like what the current "standard" dictates. Makeup may help, but most comes from taking care of myself, eating right and exercising, caring for my skin. What the beauty companies preach and they demo on tv...interesting to watch but not gonna help if you dont care for your health first.

You are so right.

Why do people get so offended by what people they don't even know in this forum say? Let it go it's not directed at you unless you are quoted. I could care less what everyone thinks of my beauty routine or my choice to be more natural. You wanna be the opposite go for it.

It's not just this forum. I'm just as guilty of thinking my opinion is best. Sometimes it makes sense and other times posters get POd. Whatever. That doesn't stop me from expressing myself and shouldn't put fear of no ❤️S in others, either. Just say what's on your mind. Honesty counts more than what others may think.

For every $90 - $200 serum or cream (that delivers the drama) that they try to sell me, I have a $14.99 alternative that has thankfully worked just as well for me for years.

Yes, it can make one insecure. So, we order this stuff that it suppose to be the "holy grail" or whatever...I am done with it. I have cleaned out my makeup drawer..
I am staying with my tried and true, unless I get sample sizes.

When I was a teen, I used to read "Seventeen" and "Glamour" magazines. As much as I enjoyed them (because I kept reading them), they did leave me with a feeling of not being good enough.
There were standards most people could not achieve, but I didn't know it at that age. I compared myself quite unfavorably to those in the magazines. Now I know a lot goes into those photos that we don't know about.
My daughter is the exact opposite of me in that she cares very little about any of it. But I would talk to a daughter and tell her what I learned later. That women in those photos are worked on by multiple people and that even the photos can be altered to make them look more "perfect." Girls really need to know this.
I can now watch beauty shows with more discrimination in what I believe! But I certainly get the OP's point about being told EVERYTHING about you needs improvement!!

I just don't know how some people aren't completely neurotic constantly being offended by other people's opinion of a product. If you like it do it, wear it, use it etc. Unless someone's seen you and says that's ugly on you it's not meant to be a personal attack.
