@hyacinth003 wrote:When I was a teen, I used to read "Seventeen" and "Glamour" magazines. As much as I enjoyed them (because I kept reading them), they did leave me with a feeling of not being good enough.
There were standards most people could not achieve, but I didn't know it at that age. I compared myself quite unfavorably to those in the magazines. Now I know a lot goes into those photos that we don't know about.
My daughter is the exact opposite of me in that she cares very little about any of it. But I would talk to a daughter and tell her what I learned later. That women in those photos are worked on by multiple people and that even the photos can be altered to make them look more "perfect." Girls really need to know this.
I can now watch beauty shows with more discrimination in what I believe! But I certainly get the OP's point about being told EVERYTHING about you needs improvement!!

Thank you. 🌸

@Shanus My post was addressing many things others posted also. I still do not see how having a variety of products presented can be quite depressing to anyone!! All the things you mention happen to all of us especially as we age. We are not made to believe but anyone looking in a mirror knows most have unwanted hair on our faces, often thinning hair (that can be reversed in most cases like mine was), most have calloused and dry feet as well as wrinkles. Every product does not work for all so it's great to have so many options to try to find the one that works best. Way back there was Noxema and CoverGirl stuff which were just awful smelling and made for some really bad skin issues for so many but there were no choices. I like the presentations and the fact that each product is described showing what it can do. Most are smart enough to know what they want and what products they want to try and use and don't find it a negative. I like to try new products and often find something that works much better for me. Those that don't want to find a better product for them shouldn't watch since they state they don't buy anyway! Don't get the point of posts like this except to get others incited to post negative about the great choices available.

You can try all the products you wish. There's no need to defend your opinion. I get it. We're all different. My choice is to not like being bombarded w/ "this is better than this" beauty products....and yes, I do change the channel. 🌸

Yep, us women are all too dry, too pasty, too wrinkled, too hairy, not hairy enough (thin eyebrows), too old looking, too dull complected, too drab, not sculpted enough, etc.. It gets old hearing it all from them, hence one of the reasons I rarely watch anymore.

Eh, maybe years ago (I mean YEARS ago) but it doesn't do that to me. I can see what I need to do myself regarding beauty, body and soul and if they happen to sell the product I may be looking for, fantastic.
One of the reasons my boys don't have phones is due to all the Instgram, texting ****** that goes on today. Don't care if my boys can't be a part of it; they'll survive. One of the most important things a parent can do regarding social media (according to the Principals of middle schools in my county) is to delete/ban Instagram from their kids phone, allow a Facebook account ONLY that is part of a family account and keep parental locks on all media devices (including X-box and other gaming equipment). Why? Because of what is out there that children are seeing and should NOT. Kids are not mini-adults and don't have the miles under their belts to know what is fact/important and what is fantasy rubbish. If they have a parent that's wrapped up in that junk, it's even worse.
Back to me and a Day of Beauty: I don't watch and become insecure. Maybe because I have a hell of an ego, lol or maybe because I know what's important in Life and what isn't.

It actually blows my mind at how many shows/beauty products QVC has....................but it must be working for them.......................even with a separate Beauty Channel QVC Live is showing beauty products constantly.
I truly believe if someone takes care of their skin with whatever beauty products they have found comfortable with..........usually they look great and it works for them.....
it think it is more up to a regimen...then purchasing all these different and expensive beauty products with promises of instant or soon to be success..................
I remember years back my mother was diligent in her facial routine...and she used Noxema....remember that cream?? haha..................and she had very nice looking skin.................my MIL used a cold cream...but did the same routine all the time....and she looked good too!!
And i am sure many of those older products had less
ingredients than in some of those facial/neck products of
today...................
The day they ACTUALLY invent a make up product that truly CURES the wrinkle/beauty issues......then i will buy
it.....................

I can't say that it affects me that way......I Still like looking pretty, but I would never be a slave to it at my age.

I am at an age that I've heard it all, not once, not twice, but a ton of times. I don't listen anymore. There is no point in listening to all this jargon anymore. Especially when it's the same old same old thing.
Just look at the hosts, vendosr, and models. They have access to almost everything and some of them still look like they need help. Products can only do so much.
The gals I feel for is the teens and up who are just hearing these sale pitches for the first go round. I imagine it could get depressing for them. They need to be told it's just not reality.. it's smoke and mirror games.
We all want to look good and that's all we can do..Do our best.

@Lali1, I read your previous post in this thread and now this one, and I'm baffled at exactly to whom they are addressed -- I guess because I haven't seen anyone unduly offended here.
