Over 20 years ago Estee Lauder made a rice polish and same principal. Great product but didn't have the TATCHA price. I don't know if they still sell it but I'm more inclined with Estee Lauder. I'm not thrilled with UNILEVER.

@katie1859 - I never knew EL made a rice polish. I wish I had known!

I started using rice polish in Japan. One of my friends recommended it, I don't remember the name, but it wasn't one of the big ones. When I returned home I  thought for sure someone would have it. Of course I checked with Shiseido, and they didn't. But Fresh did. I used it for years until they discontinued it. I was so upset! At the time Bobbi Brown made something "like" a rice polish, but it just wasn't the same. So, even though I wasn't thrilled with the way they marketed, I tried Tatcha. I still use it a few times a week.   Smiley Happy

I could never get past the price of Tatcha products.  Ten, or so, years ago, when Tatcha launched on QVC, I was intrigued and more into K-Beauty. I did some shopping and found more reasonably priced alternatives on Amazon.  The cleansing oil was terrific but left Amazon after awhile.  It became too much of a hassle, to order from overseas.  The Palmer's Cleansing Oil has been a wonderful and affordable alternative. The enzymatic cleansing polish alternative I found (Fleur de Lis Rice & Papaya Enzyme Powder) was also quite good.  It went away too, and that's when I discovered Vasanti Brighten Up, although there are many cleansing powders out there.  It's not an exact replacement but it's a nice, gentle, creamy, enzymatic polish.  I'm still quite happy with the Vasanti but recently found the Fleur de Lis cleansing powder again and ordered it for DD and myself. She loves it. I haven't opened mine yet.  I've also found all kinds of affordable essences out there too.  All of the alternatives perform quite well.  The only thing I've bought from the Tatcha brand was a lip treatment that happened to be a deal at the time.  I wasn't overly impressed, it was thick and sticky.  In general, Tatcha product, IMO, are way overpriced.

Tatcha is pricey, but I do like their products! I don't use them exclusively, but do purchase them once in a while when they are on a special...I don't find them to be anymore expensive than let's say Lancer, or PTR or Sunda Riley or some of the others. Their eye creams are mega pricey though, and even though I love it, I haven't re-purchased it....

The vendor, Janipher is gorgeous and has great skin!!!

You're right about Janipher's complexion, @CANDLEQUEEN . She is gorgeous.  I read somewhere about her being the top banana now.  What happened to Vicky Tsai?

@JeanLouiseFinch I think I read where she "retired" to spend more time with her family.......Probably a lot like Leslie Blodgett, and Jamie Kern Lima from It Cosmetics, make their milions and millions and just retire and enjoy it all.....

@beach-mom

My mom was a Kyoto native. Her family has a family crest, 'kamon'.  I was born in a small city just north of Nagasaki. I have a dual citizenship. I wasn't there long enough to remember anything but my mom had a lot of pictures of where she grew up. Maybe one day I will return.Woman Happy

Oh @SilleeMee ! I wish we could sit and talk for hours! I loved Japan, and I visited Kyoto and Nara 3 or 4 times.

The first time I was in Kyoto was late afternoon. I still remember turning down the path and seeing Kinkakuji for the first time. The sun was shining on it. I felt like I had gone back in time about 300 years! It was so beautiful! I attended an authentic tea ceremony once. The gardens were spectacular, and I felt such a feeling of peace.

You must have relatives in Japan. I hope you do get to go back someday! I hope I get to go back someday too! My children grew up eating Japanese food, and they still love it. We are lucky enough to have a great Japanese restaurant near us, but I used to make it a lot too when they were home.

I still use my original rice cooker. I had the plug changed so I could use it here. We used to have rice at least once a week.

I have had fun though the years teaching a few words of basic conversational Japanese to my children's classes and to some Girl Scout troops. My own children would use a few phrases at home, like etadakimasu (let's eat), gochichosamade******a (it was delicious) - I know I did a terrible job spelling these out! We would say please and thank you and discuss the weather.

I felt so safe there. One time I left my books and papers on the train at the end of the day. I was frantic. I called my friend Kumiko, who told me to relax because they would be there the next day. When I got on the train and sat down a conductor brought them to me! I was one of the few gaijins on the train, so I guess he recognized me!

I'd better stop talking now!  I am so passionate about your birth country!   Smiley Happy

Oh please, you ladies keep talking about Japan.  I wanted to go there so bad when I graduated from college. The girl I met in Europe and I roomed together in college and our parents were sending us on a graduation trip. We wanted to go to Japan so bad! Our parents said that was way too expensive of a choice. 🤨

@monicakm - It's never too late! It really is a beautiful place. I think  you would really like it! You would love the shopping district of Tokyo. I think I only went to that area once or twice, and I was way too young and not financially able to buy anything from those stores!  Smiley Wink

@beach-mom

You are so lucky to have had that experience in Japan! I envy you.

BTW, my mom was an teacher, too. She taught elementary school English.
