These sealed products don't go bad! It's not like they are going to hurt you if they weren't made yesterday.
If you shop in any online store, you have no idea of where they store their products in a warehouse, how long they have been sitting there, nothing. Even in retail stores, when you go to the cosmetic counter and see dozens of bottles of skincare on the shelves, do you have any idea of when they stocked those products there, or even go to great lengths to find out?
I just don't get it. The prices at HL were fabulous and everyone who got them has been excited about that but now all of a sudden this post is riling things up and demanding answers from Dimitri. Well, you got your refund so now I guess you can throw away your products, and others can call CS and demand refunds, but still use the products for free. Then eventually HL won't offer any more sales to the rest of us. Please don't buy Mally, Tarte, LG or any other brands they have sales on because those might be "too old" too.
Geez!
I don't think anyone demanded a refund. I know I didn't. I'm not putting products on my skin that are beyond what the manufacturer suggests for shelf life. There is a reason they tell us the shelf life. I'm very pleased with everything else I ordered and told Hautelook so. I think it's wrong to put others down for being concerned about this. We are ALL entitled to our opinions.
me too. and yes, so far many on this thread called HL and got refunds after complaining about old products. So you didn't use the word "demand" but other than complaining to CS, what else did you want? You wanted a refund. I bet any money many of the same complainers who got refunds will now take those products to ebay and sell them.
My point is, the site said NO returns to either HL or the Rack so you should know that means buyer beware and yes, that many of these products are older stock, that's why they are so cheap. But then to call CS and say you think they are old, but really have no evidence of that, just means to me that people want something for nothing.
And putting skincare from a sealed container on your skin doesn't mean anything. It doesn't have mold or mildew, it just didn't get freshly poured.
I really don't get why you're so upset. All I stated in my email to Hautelook was that I was concerned about when the Chin up duo was manufactured. My containers look different and the ingredients are different from the current Chin Ups that Skinn sells. I didn't ask for a refund. I expected them to reassure me they were fine and give me an estimated manufacturing date. Or they could have said sorry all sales are final and we don't know when they were made. It was their decision to refund me. I knew all sales were final when I ordered. Bottom line is its business and nothing more. Definitely nothing to get upset over.

well, not everyone is complaining and as another poster said, you should know when you buy products from retailers who buy out stock from original sellers i.e. TJ Maxx, HL, not to mention ebay, many of those people buy multiple bundled products and resell them and no one knows how long ago they bought their products.
It is not a scam nor should be a surprise to get discounted items. If you want freshly made, or at least what you think is freshly made, then buy from the original source.
BTW, I was thinking about all the WEN fanatics who buy multiple of gallons of his CC that could not possibly be used up in 2-3 years and they seem to have no problem buying fell retail value from him.
Yes, as I said, now that I know that they are selling skin care that is old stock, I wouldn't consider it.

For those of you that what to know how old these items all...just look @the code...13, means 2013, 14, 2014 etc, with the month & day making up the rest of the code.
Since most of us use up these items in months NOT years I don't think it's an issue for most.
While I'm Not thrilled that these are almost 1- 1 1/2 years old from the manufacturing date, I think that most of us would have like to have known that before hand, so that WE could have made the decision to purchase "older" items, NOT the company doing it for us.
That said...if you have any concerns, you can refrigerate anything within the 2 year date & also remember that the best buy date, doesn't necessarily mean that it's bad...just that you'll get the best results during the (2) year time.
Hope that helps.

Oh, and as for the idea that we don't really know about manufacturing dates when we buy skin care or cosmetic, there is a way to find out that is quite simple, without having to call the company.
It's a site called checkcosmetic.net. Of course, it's limited by what's in its database, but I've used it quite often.

I'm not upset. I just think that people should know what they are buying and not buy something cheap and then complain later that it is not what they expected. If you were concerned about the manufacturing date, you could have emailed or chatted online with Cs during the event and asked them if the products were discounted because they were close to the expiration date and also where HL gets their buyouts from. Then if you knew you would have made a better decision. But buying first and asking questions later, I just don't get.
Now that you know and others are saying the same, are you going to throw them away, or still use them because since you got a refund, they will now be free so it doesn't matter how old they are?

what do you use when you buy cosmetics at the Nordstrom's or Macy's counter? The word of the SA? Having had a DIL who was a Lancome rep at Dillard's, you would not believe how they rotate stock.

I use checkcosmetic.net, as stated in my reply. If the date is not satisfactory to me, I would return it.

i just went to the checkcosmetic.net site and entered the codes as provided in this thread. They were not found.
And that site stated anything after 3 years may not be as efficacious, but not harmful.
BTW, the home page is dated Nov. 22, 2010 so don't know if they update or not.

I did not expect them to have Skinn in their database. As for updating, I have no clue. All I know is that many products I use are in the database, so when I plug in the batch code or lot number, I get a hit.
I'm not really arguing with you about efficacy vs. harm. I'm just stating my opinion that I want the skincare I buy to be as fresh as possible. If I'm ordering online from a site that is new to me, sometimes I will even call and ask them.
It matters to me. YMMV.

These products are CLOSEOUTS, meaning there was a huge discount from either the manufacturer or the retailer that is dumping this stock. Yes, dumping. One cannot expect perfect current merchandise. That is why you are getting a pretty good discount. Hautelook refunded you out of the goodness of their heart, its implied you are not getting A-l first class merchandise. If that is important to you, buy only from first line retailers like Evine. Some people are willing to take a chance to save some money, let them. These closeout operations fill a valuable niche in the retailing chain. Don't malign them or Skinn Cosmetics. This is just a fact of life, ladies.
Thank you depglass, you said it well...
