Skin Care Routine Compared

[ Edited ]

When I was doing my daily skin care routine this week, I got to thinking about all the products that I use!!Man Surprised Not that i Have to use any or all of them. I do choose to.

And thinking to my Moms thru the years before she died 9 years ago.

She used Dove soap and then Oil of Olay on her face.

Some lipstick and she was done!!Man Wink

Besides makeup, highlighter, bronzer, blush, mascara, eye liner, brow pencil, concealor: This is all the stuff that I use! Not all at the same time or the same day  Man Very Happy

Am and Pm cleanser, Pore Detox Cleanser, Body Butter,  Skinn Botani-lift, Moisturizer,  Orchid Gel (Primer)  Argan Oil, Eye Cream, Neck Cream, Derma Peel, Lip Peel, Eye Mask, Lip Sugar Scrub, Wrinkle Soak, Lip Mask, Line filler for lips and eyes, Tinted lip balm, Retinol, Lip6X, Self Tanner, NuFace. Might be a few more too.

Thinking of how nice it would be to not use so much stuff and to have a simple routine that worked. I dont want to stop using the products though because SOME are preventative and some I need

Man Embarassed

Some days like weekends if Im not going out I wont put a thing on my skin to give it a break. Man Tongue

Those options were not available to your mom's generation.  I'm simple and old school and feel that beauty is internally driven both metaphorically and physically....it's the sleep, stress, exercise, diet, and, of course, genes as well as our nature that mostly (products do have a role) defines beauty.  That is just my opinion and if you are happy with your routine, I think that happiness also influences your beauty.

My skin was in terrible shape about 4 years ago.  I have pared down to a very simple routine and it looks a lot better.  It is oily and I am old, not wrinkled but prone to redness and sensitive skin.

For me, my skin simply can't take all that junk and reacts badly to almost all of it.

I've been having some liberating moments lately for the last several months. I have been going to my derm's office to get some facial spider veins removed and I have to go once a month, for several months in a row. Each time I go I can't wear anything on my face at all, including moisturizer or sunscreen...bare skin.  Those days give me a sense of freedom away from my cosmetics and all. It really feels good to not have to worry about what I look like...even if it's only for a day...so liberating!Woman Very Happy

@SilleeMee   I so agree about it being freeing. I said on another thread that I love my days staying home without a stitch of makeup. At other times, I may think about what I look like, but I never worry about it.

My MIL lived to be 100. She had beautiful skin thanks to Ponds cold cream and Johnson’s Baby Lotion....that’s it. Go figure.

@SilleeMee  Love your posts and was thinking about your comment, how liberating it is to not have to worry about about what you look like if even for a day.  Just a thought...what if that day can be extended in time:smileywink  I can easily relate to what you are saying because i know that freedom from worry releases me.  Maybe having those veins removed will influence your daily routine.

Skin care...Paula's Choice cleanser & Skin Perfecting 2% BHA. Makeup...a mineral powder & lip gloss. I also use Gold Bond neck cream. I've always kept it simple & at 68 I'm comfortable with aging...I know who I am, what I believe & live it.

Yes! @phoenixbrd My goal is to go w/o makeup...any day, anywhere and feel comfortable about it.  Right now I'm almost there...just a few more touch-ups to go, hopefully.Woman Happy
