I would just use a bronzer.  Much easier and you don't get that dryness.  It's also much easier to control the color.

@MG Chris --yes-- have tried all the tricks but mainly the thing about self tanners and me--is the horrendous smell --I smell like dirty feet about 3 hours later.  No matter what the multitude of vendors say about not having a smell--eveyone I have tried--and there have been many---have ended up smelling like that--must be a thing with my ph --so no more.

I use Jergens Natural Glow for face.  It gives a subtle bronze color and has spf 20.  It is non oily and comes in fair-medium or medium-dark.  It says to apply once daily for natural color.

Once I put on my foundation, it looks really nice.

I use Coola tan serum, very natural color for the face. Also has the benefits of a serum.

Every time I’ve used a self tanner on the face and emphasizes any hyper pigmentation on my face. So I just use bronzer art fully.

never use self tanner on my face-- makes my spots darker.  I use bronzer-- Laura Geller or Bare Minerals Warmth work well for me.
