I will put in another plug for Andrew's Hair Skin and Nails.
I have hair AGAIN!!!! woo hoo!!! and it no longer feels like there are only 3 hairs between my fingers. 2 caps a day.
I think part of your problem is Andrew's product. I was using it years ago, and my head itched even worse than it does now. It's the biotin in it that made my scalp itch terribly. I ran out of it on vacation and my itching was still there but nowhere near as bad.
I had to stop using all products with biotin--any healthy hair skin and nails complex. I tried to rechallenge with other biotin products, and the same thing happened.
I have found some relief with the Neutrogena shampoo with salicylic acid in it. My derm recommended it. She also recommend ketoconozale shampoo (Nizoral) as itching is often due to yeast.
Avoid biotin and use a product that removes buildup like salicylic acid.
I can't use coal tar as it discolors hair and I pay too much for highlights.
I've used Nizoral with no results, Head & Shoulders with no results, and now I'm using Selson Blue Naturals (3% Salicylic) and it's not doing much.
And my mother and sister use Biotin and swear by it.
Everybody's different.

Yes, everybody is different, but I've read on countless eczema boards (as I suffer from this), that biotin is a culprit in many cases. Your mother and sister are fortunate it doesn't effect them.
Biotin is known, in some patients, to cause a lot of itching. If one is predisponed to that, it just makes it worse.
I have lived with eczema and dermatitis all of my life. I'm very knowledgeable on this and have read a lot about treatments, causes, etc.
Diet and the inflammatory process also play a role. I could not use WEN and many can. That shows , yes, we are all different.

@winamac1 I bought this product because it does have Salicylic acid in it. I read that's what I needed to use. I take HHS&N but don't think that's my problem. Mine does not itch. I just have some kind of patchy scaly white stuff on my scalp. It's probably the same as the dry patches on my face since the skin on our scalp /face is the same. I use Proactive about 3 x per month to keep those at bay. It seems to be working for me. If I use it every day it dries out my skin. These things have all happened since menopause.
The product I mentioned has Salicylic acid & Colloidal Oatmeal in it + evening primrose oil. Not sure what else.
The ingredient label is listed n Wal-Mart's site if anyone wants to know what's in it.
