steiny ~ I'm so sorry about the loss of your husband.

I'll be looking for your posts and celebrate each little success you have! Remember, you can't do it all at once ~ I like your strategy of making sure the bin is full each week, I think it's a great motivation and will have you moving in the right direction!

YOU CAN DO THIS! {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Thank you. It feels like I might make some headway this time. It's always good to know I'm not alone.

This saved me from being tempted to buy...un-subscribing from several company's e-mails. I would get over 50- e-mails a day from places like Estee Lauder, Lancome, Elizabeth Arden, plus all the craft places. Suddenly there would be a free gift with purchase or yarn would be half price. I would spend a lot of time figuring out what to buy just to meet the minimum purchase requirement for the free gift. I didn't need anything, but boy, that free gift was quite the deal! I'd get the goodies and shove them away in a drawer. So I un-subscribed, and no more temptation. Saved a ton of money.

I figured out a couple of truths for me: nothing is free and the lowest sale price is the worth of an object.

I don,t have the clutter or credit card problem, but have way too much of the buying problem. I paid in full every month, but have really gone through savings. Mine is an addiction problem.because of thinking I am giving love to myself, but has gotten to the point of a lot of guilt.

Every time I buy, I plurge something. I have quite a few EP to pay come next statement on Q. Discover, Amex. And two visas. They all get paid in full, but it has to stop. I have returned ten items in the last week. Stuff that was cheap looking or broke in a month, or didn,t like. Most had no shipping charges because they were FROZEN TOYS DEFECTIVE AND A LUMERIE CANDLE .I was going to replace CANDLE, but thought, I really don,t need it.

This thread has really helped me to know I am not alone. Like we overeat to give ourselves love, some of us buy gifts to ourselves also to fill a void. I never have gotten a gift for a few years from anyone. I take that back, My Dentist gave me a mini I PAD this Christmas, which made me cry in front of everyone. I also got a big box of cookies from TJ from a friend????, who knew I live alone and can,t eat this stuff. I gave this as a donation at a dinner I went to. I never get a gift from family, The point being, I buy myself gifts I don,t need. It has been three days, no Q or any other shopping. I usually shop Q only. I will keep checking here it has been a big help.

I starting cleaning out drawers and closets months ago. Except for groceries, I don,t buy at brick and mortar, 80%Q and 10% Amazon. the rest pet meds.

The Q IS THE ADDICTION.

Yesterday, I brought a juicer and Keriug View alone with smaller items to GOING TO THE DOGS, a goodwill to benefit the Humane society. Today more stuff to get rid of, nail polishes, and Jewerly I don,t use. Some guilt coming from the money I spent and now getting rid of, like more throwing away of money. I even made out a budget yesterday and cut out things to spend money on.

Instead of four weeks hairdresser, will make it six. Also, I am thinking of dying my own hair, she doesn,t do much better. I will put the cute wigs I brought to use in between. I am going to make a game out of saving. Thank you for this thread.

QVCAddiction, think of the savings as the gift you are giving yourself in lieu of the tangible items.

I know it is depressing to go through the holiday season receiving few or no gifts when all the hype implies it's one huge giving fest for everyone else. In reality I think most households without small kids are pretty light on the gift-giving and receiving.

Can you set a financial goal -- either savings or $$ for a trip or something substantial -- and "credit" to the goal the cost of anything you talk yourself out of ordering? When it starts adding up you may feel even more motivated. Maybe a massage or facial once a month? I found a cosmetology school near me that does full salon-style facials (with client lying down in a dim room, just like the high-end places) for $25 and I think the massage was $20.

Also, on a practical basis: To assuage that "new stuff" desire, try the library. I find that walking out of the library with books, magazines, DVDs etc. makes me feel the same as after a successful retail trip (and I'm not a serious shopper but do enjoy the occasional spree on drugstore cosmetics, office supplies, etc.) -- and the bonus is that items borrowed from the library are free and won't clutter up your home forever.

Taking $10 to a thrift shop or even a dollar store can let off "buying" steam as well though the downside is acquiring more junk.

I have subscribed to "The January Cure" from the Apartment Therapy blog (not just for apartments -- I live in a house). It gives you weekly assignments to help get your home clean, organized, and under control. Hoping this will help me get rid of clutter, and not add more clutter by continuing to buy more unneeded stuff.

If anyone's interested, web page address is below:

I already failed. I ordered Clinique lipstick, luminess air, and hair dye. I will try again to start fresh tomorrow.

Pinkroses, you have not failed. Like 2slow2 said, "just a slip". Besides hair dye is necessary isn't it?

Re: SIMPLIFY 2015-join us if you want to commit to spending less and want support! Week 1

hairdye doesn't count.

I buy clothes because I think they make me look prettier, more chic, etc. But I've noticed when I have a salon blowdry when my roots, highlights or cut is done I get a lot of attention. I picked a friend up (at the hospital so maybe she was a little loopy) and she said,"You look like a different person; it's so beautiful."

So, everytime I think of spending more money on a sweater, etc. I factor in the thirty five bucks that would give me a blowdry and stop.

No matter how much hairstuff or tools I buy I cannot get that effect.

Re: SIMPLIFY 2015-join us if you want to commit to spending less and want support! Week 1

{#emotions_dlg.biggrin} Good morning all. Still haven't gone to the QVC page. It's easy now not to as I have taken the app off of my phone and tablet.

Yesterday the doorbell rings and it's the UPS guy. He had already started back to his truck and turned around. I had opened the door and was wondering what I had ordered from QVC that I forgot about. He came back on the porch and said "ooops, wrong house. I'm just so use to bringing you packages from QVC I thought it was yours"!! It was my next door neighbors, but it made me realize just how many packages I was getting from QVC. That experience was a real resolve booster for me.

The only thing I really like is the Philosophy Makeup remover. I have a huge bottle so I should be good for quite a while. I know ULTA sells it, but not sure how they are on price compared to QVC. When I need more, I'll probably just get it from ULTA.

Have a great day today all.
