My current new favorite is:

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Shine # 350 Empowered, a beautiful shade of red. 

It's a little sheer and shiny!  I love the formula of the Envy Shine lippies.

@LisaMofSLC.   Laura Mercier has a sheer lipstick called Healthy Lips and it is one of my favorites.  It's not a bright red but rather deeper and a medium shade.  It's hard to describe (I am not good at that) but it is pretty.  Check it out on Nordstrom.com.

I recommend the following MAC products.  First line your lips with MAC Mahagony lip pencil, No A83.  (just line the lips do not color full lips.)  Then use MAC Bronze Shimmer Frost, No A15, to color your lips around and near the lined lips, mabe picking up a tiny bit of lip liner.  I find for mature women a lip liner works to stop lipstick creep.  The result of these two products is a sparkling red color.

I saw this thread and thought about it for several days. You obviously don't want to look like Snow White with that deep red lipstick.

A very nice red that is not a red that says 'I'm here, on your lips' is Urban Decay Manic.

I'm fair but not porcelain and this color looks very nice.

There are hundreds of shades of red, that's a question one woman can't answer for another woman.  You need to see and try out them out for yourself.

Believe it or Burts bees has some nice sheer lips with a bit of color. Also the mineral sticks are nice. I was watching one of the channels last nite and I realized they have been pawning off this ugly fushia red for the longest timewhich is not a true red lip and it frankly looks awful on just about everyone. A true tomatoe or classic red is pretty on everybody, but the pinky shades with blue undertones will even make your teeth yellow looking. Reds are tricky but once you get the right one, what a difference. People will come up and compliment me when I wear a red lip, it is amazing!
