Questions About Argan Oil

[ Edited ]

I have never tried Josie Maran's argan oil but I have a couple of questions:

  • Is her argan oil any different than other brands?  Does she add something or is it just the argan oil?
  • Do you use it before or after your moisturizer?  Or, do you even need a moisturizer?

I was looking around on the web and you can get argan oil at a very reasonable price in a lot of places.

Thanks.

Re: Questions About Argan Oil

@WinkkYou will most likely get many opinions on this.  I, personally, think hers is special.  I have tried cheaper oil from Amazon.  It doesn't penetrate like hers does.   I have used her regular, light, and the Reserve.  I like the Reserve the best, but the other two work well, too.  This is all I use for a facial moisturizer over any serums that I may be using.

Oh, and her unscented body cream is the bomb for the face, too.  I didn't care for her facial cream nor did I care for the milk.  It was drying for my face.

This is interesting @tends2dogs.  So you use the oil over a serum.  I was thinking the oil would replace the serum.  You're right I will probably get many different responses.  I guess it will have to be trial and error until I find what works best for me.  Thanks.

Re: Questions About Argan Oil

@Winkk  Yes, especially at night, I use a retinol, then I apply the oil.  During the day, vitamin C, and then the oil.

I hope you find what works well for you.

Re: Questions About Argan Oil

Josies argan  oil is good; I have used others and don't notice much of a difference. I think any facial product works much better when your skin is prepared for it. I use my clarisonic at night and my Luna in the morning before any skincare and have found that products are absorbed much easier and I use less of them. I put serums on first than the oils. right now I am using argan with a few drops of hylaronic oil together, then my moisturizer. Am 63 with very dry skin. It looks pretty good too!!

Re: Questions About Argan Oil

The things to look for in quality argan oil are:

-purity, ingredients list contains only argan oil

-100% pure and cold pressed

-container must  be amber-colored glass to prevent photo damage to light sensitive oil

-oil should be light-golden yellow color, not colorless or deep-golden brown color

-scent should have a light nutty aroma

-sediment at the bottom is a sign of quality and indicates it is not highly refined

Re: Questions About Argan Oil

@Winkk  Yes, Josie's Argan Oil is 100% Argan Oil.  You use it as the last step of your skincare routine.

Argan Oil doesn't work for me as a face oil because I have acne prone skin.  See this article for explanation--

http://www.minimalistbeauty.com/oils-specifically-for-acne-prone-skin/

You can go to Sephora and try Josie's Argan Oil to see if it works for you.  At whole foods, you can also try other oils by Acure Organics. You might find that other kinds of oil work better for you, such as Marula oil or Rosehip oil (Acure also has argan oil).

Re: Questions About Argan Oil

[ Edited ]

@Winkk I have used JM argan oil and really enjoyed it. But, when I ran out, I purchased argan oil from Shea Terra Organics which has all the same properties as JM argan oil. The cost for 3.38 oz. was $38. I had a 30% off coupon that brought down the cost considerably. Below is a description from STO website. It is also certified organic.

Forgot to mention, I add in a couple of drops to my am and pm moisturizer as well as my body cream. I've also used it on bare skin (face).

100% Pure & Natural. Accept no imitations. Are you buying 100% Pure Moroccan Argan Oil for all your hair and skin care needs? For nearly two decades, Shea Terra Organics has been offering only 100% Pure Moroccan Oil straight from the source. Our argan oil is produced only deep in the Atlas Mountains in a region scientifically shown to produce the highest quality argan oil. We NEVER add fragrance, alcohol or dilute the oil with inferior oils as is common practice. 100% Pure Moroccan Argan Oil is loaded with vitamins A & E and is rich in anti-aging property squalene. Shea Terra Organics' cold pressed, 100% Pure Moroccan Argan Oil has an amazing ability to help repair skin and help provide all day protection against moisture loss

Re: Questions About Argan Oil

I feel JOSIES argan oil is a step above the rest.

I have used off brands found at Marshalls, there is no comparison.

But I use the argan oil first, It absorbs quickly. I still use the butters on top.

I love her body butters and her FACE butter really helps my DRY DRY DRY face.
