Question about drugstore retinol cream

a couple of weeks ago I started using Olay Retinol24 night cream. It causes my skin to  have tiny breakouts, white bumps not really noticeable unless you look close or feel my face. I have never before used Retinol  I'm wondering if it is clogging my pores or if the cream itself is too rich for my skin.

Any advice?

Re: Question about drugstore retinol cream

It can take time for skin to adjust to retinol. You might want to uses a cream/lotion with a lower % of retinol.

Re: Question about drugstore retinol cream

The retinol is causing your pores to purge the "clogs".    This is normal...(and usually temporary).

@smoochy   My guess would be the combo of cream with the retinol. You also don't know the exact % of retinol. The cream may be causing the breakouts. This is why I prefer Retinol or Retin A separately and then use my own moisturizer that I know agrees with my skin.

First off do you actually know the % of Retinol in this product, I have used as much as 3% with no issues. Also, this cream contains mineral oil, that could cause clogging and also it contains DMDM Hydantoin which is a preservative that is made from formaldehyde, just my 2 cents but I think you can find a much more ingredient friendly product than this.

Re: Question about drugstore retinol cream

I had the nastiest reaction to this cream, ever!

It wasn't bumps, it was redness and inflammation of my skin. As others have said, you don't know the percentages of ingredients.

I've used Retin A without this kind of reaction.

I doubt there is more than 1% Retinol in here. I usually dont find Olay to use the most stellar of ingredients

Re: Question about drugstore retinol cream

They don't mention % and the packaging is not very protective for light or air.

It makes my face a little bit red on application but that goes away
