How long do you keep your lipsticks, shadows (power and cream) and blushes?  I rarely use mascara but still change them every 4 months. I still have many pots of BE which are about 6 years old...they used to say those lasted forever...

I keep powdered products FOREVER.    Anything greasy or liquid gets the "sniff test".

I live in a very DRY climate...so even "pencils" and mascara can dry out before they are used up.

Mascara is the only thing I change out on a strict schedule. Everything else is subject to how it looks, feels, smells.

The only thing I change out often is mascara and lash primer.  Everything else I keep -  unless it smells or looks off.

I don't believe in throwing away products after 6 months.  A big waste.

@bargainsgirl

1.  Liquid and cream products technically should be tossed after a year. I've usually used them up by then.

2.  Powder products usually are OK unless they get oily spots ("hit pan") in places. Sometimes that can be scraped off to leave fresh product.

3.  Lipsticks? Well I have to admit if I find a shade I love I use it until smells funkly or used up.

4.  Powder eye shadows last a long time. If over 2 years old, you can cleanse the top w/ a q tip and alcohol and leave open to dry. Cream shadows after a year can be swiped with alcohol.

5.  Mascara always 3 months. I label them with a sharpie or label maker. It's not worth the eye infections, etc. to start a new one. That's why I stay w/ drugstore mascara. I could never feel good about tossing an expensive one. If higher  end mascaras (I love Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye mascara) are available in smaller sizes I will  purchase those.

I simplified my skincare and makeup routine so my products are usually pretty much finished by the time they should be thrown out. I've changed to stick foundations and concealers and a stick bronzer (MERIT) and mostly stick shadows w/ some smaller powder palettes. Pencil liners that can be sharpened so freshened regularly.

I trust my nose-if it smells--it's a goner. Still have pots of powder shadow from many years ago---and really, I need to toss those as I never use them anymore. Mascara is the one thing I will make sure to buy new tho. I do have liquid foundations that I  use only once in a while too--need to sniff those to check. Have really stopped  wearing make up most days anyway---mostly when I go out in public these days. Still am a fanatic about my skincare tho.
