Who knew?

To have differently formulations seems like a contradiction of Chaz's philosophy. He speaks of karma and zen, so I think my purchasing of his products will be limited. Thanks for the heads-up.

Please don't pass such harsh judgment against Chaz based on what the 20-25 posters on this forum say. Keep in mind we (and I'm including myself) are here because we are passionate about WEN and enjoy discussing, dissecting and even arguing about the fine points of WEN. We are in no way experts.

All WEN is cruelty-free and manufactured in the same solar facilities. GR is not "dummied down" for mass production, nor do they manufacture WEN. They are just like QVC - they purchase their product from Chaz. The differences in formulations aren't in the active ingredients but are necessary for international import. When Chaz has shows on QVC in the UK, Germany or Japan, he sells the GR WEN. It is not a contradiction, his philosophy is the same.

Please do your own research before you make a decision. Even call the salon and ask them, but please don't base your decision on this forum.

Well this is very interesting now that I'm using WEN. I thought QVC sold the same stuff as the CD website and for some reason GR had to have different formulas. I've only used from Q, but my mother has also used from GR. I never thought about Sephora. An official statement from CD Co. would be nice. I thought I heard him say he tells salon clients to purchase the TSVs.

kittykendra, you are right - QVC is the same as the CD website, GR's formula is different only to comply with international and shipping requirements since they sell in several countries.

The smell would linger between shampoos with the smaller sizes. Not so with the stuff in the gallon. Anyone else have this experience?

Nope, I've noticed no difference. I don't have any Bamboo Green Tea, but that's not been the case with the two formulas I do have in various sizes and gallons.

Yep, couldn't agree more with this.

I was stating the ingredients information for factual purposes, not to deter users from buying from other distributors.

Regardless of where you buy it from, Wen is still produced under the same philosophy, just with a different ingredient deck. The ingredients are only different so Chaz can provide product to a wider market; it has nothing to do with him trying to scam users or contradict his philosophy to make a quick buck.

The distribution difference is not a reflection on Chaz - it's a reflection on the market he's trying to accommodate.

I would differ only in that I believe GR does in fact manufacture the formula re-formulated for them by Chaz by using contracted manufacturers. Certainly everyone should ask questions on their own as you say. Also everyone should be cognizant of the ways of business and realize that Chaz cannot be responsible for everything. Laws have to be obeyed. The business has to grow. Even if the Sephora version does not have the ingredients we are used to, it seems eventually if you get into WEN you will find your way to the Q for deals. If someone liked WEN before, they will really like it with even better ingredients.

That last bit is exactly what happened to me, Kjelle - I know you read my original post breaking down the details and as far as the Sephora Wen is concerned, it provides "good" results that lead us to want even better results! {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Wow, thanks for the heads up. I guess I won't be buying Wen at Sephora. It was something I was considering, but if it's not the same Wen I know and love, I'll pass.

I actually started using Wen after buying the Sephora "Wen Healthy Hair Kit," and it was pretty mediocre.

So mediocre, in fact, that I'm not really sure what drove me to continue using Wen, but hey, I'm not complaining {#emotions_dlg.blush}

I still have the packaging from my Sephora Wen products, a few GR products, a CC from Chaz's site, and of course the stuff I get on the Q; it actually looks like there are THREE different formulations, not two. The Sephora version looks similar to the ingredient makeup of GR BUT the quality deteriorates as you go further down the ingredient deck.

On the CC, the first three ingredients are different for all three distributors; QVC/Chaz's site have the formula sold in Chaz's salon, GR has a formula that is close to QVC's but slightly different, and Sephora has a completely different formula that is entirely reliant upon alcohol.

The RTM is the same kind of thing, and all three have different formulations, and yet again, Sephora's is reliant upon alcohol, albeit a "moisturizing" type of alcohol.

The ReMoist is the big kicker though - the ingredients are pretty much the same for GR and QVC; Sephora's version, however, is absent of many of the ingredients that make the RM worthwhile and is instead packed with fillers.

Having used the GR, QVC, and Sephora products, I can say without hesitation that you will NOT be getting the Wen we know and love if you buy it from Sephora.

Like I said, the results were mediocre, as in not great but not terrible, and I just had a gut feeling this was not the fantastic Wen I had heard about, so I looked elsewhere, found Wen on the Q, and never looked back.

The Wen at Sephora is a good "starting point" for Wen, if you will. For those who have never used Wen and don't know what to expect, they won't be able to tell the difference between the real deal and the Sephora version.

You will be sorely disappointed should you choose to fall back on Sephora's version of Wen when you don't have the time to wait for a shipment from QVC or GR, especially now that you know what quality to expect from Wen. For me, Sephora left me yearning for better results; the results I got from QVC and GR were in stark contrast, for the better, from those with Sephora.

You're pretty much gonna get the same Wen quality from GR as you will from QVC, though, so if you're looking for consistency stick with these two distributors.

Hope this helps! {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

ryleighbell, WOW!!! Thank you so much for that really thorough explanation. Very impressive…. and soooo helpful!!! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

I only purchase Wen through QVC or occasionally through Chaz's site, but after reading your analysis I'm glad that I've been using those source. I know GR has to modify their ingredients listing in order to comply with a variety of international regulations.

Also, since you have been a part of our Wen community you have posted a number of really helpful threads about haircare and Wen. I know that you have a keen interest about this topic since you also blog about beauty, so I really have appreciated your sharing your insights with everyone. I'm a fanSmiley Happy

I'm blushing over here - you're like the Wen Sage so getting a compliment from you is the best! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

I try to post Wen reviews on my actual review blog outside of the forums, (they're usually pretty long and I'm looking forward to doing one for FTP when I have concrete opinions on it and I'll definitely post it here) so half the time I approach the forum the same way I would if I was going to try and help out a stranger who was looking for info on my blog - that's actually how I found the forum myself so I'm happy you find it helpful!

Thank you so much! {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}
