Re: PTR !!!! I'm loading up!!!!

[ Edited ]

I inquired about it with QVC Customer Service and they basically told me they do not know whether there is a difference in formulation between the two products.  They also gave me PTR customer service's number (212-581-5800) and suggested I contact PTR directly to inquire.  I find the response utterly unacceptable as QVC is representing both on their website and on TV that the Mega size is just a larger version of the 1oz Retinol PM product.  If they make any representation, they should be able to back it up.  I asked my inquiry be forwarded to management,  so I will let you know what I hear back.

I've never heard of needing to wash retinol off in the morning. I'm sure that it been totally absorbed within 30 minutes of applying. Or am I missing something specific about this formula?

Also, of course we should use sunscreen in the morning when using a retinol product at night. But then, we should do that anyway. I don't think that there's any major cause for worry, especially since we are not taking about prescription strength.

@suzyQ3,

PTR describes his retinol serum to be a micro-encapsulated, time-release formula.  The retinol is being slowly released throughout the night, not just immediately after application.

@River Song, I recall hearing that from a presentation. But still, is there really a need for washing it off in the morning? I can't even imagine that you would even be able to at that point.

@suzyQ3,

Um, I don't think retinol must be washed off in the morning, especially since Paula Begoun stated in her new book that retinol can be used during the day as long as you apply a sunscreen over it to protect it from degrading in UV light.

And, she says you can use AHA's, BHA's and Vitamin C serums at the same time with retinol as they do not deactivate it.  So, it appears that a lot of "rules" about combining retinoids with other 'actives' and day/night use are changing from what was said five years ago.

What intrigues me about the PTR retinol serum is that it is microencapsulated.  The benefits of microencapsulation are three-fold:

1.  It protects the retinol from heat, light and air so it doesn't degrade as quickly.

2.  It helps the retinol work longer.  As the 'capsules' dissolve slowly in your skin over the course of eight hours, you're getting a nice, slow, sustained release of retinol into your skin, instead of a one-and-done approach.

3.  It's makes the retinol more gentle.  You get a bigger dose up front and increasingly smaller, slower, sustained doses of retinol for the rest of the night.

The times they are a-changing...hard to keep up with this stuff.
