Re: OT - Carpenter Bees....HELP

I had a problem with them on the deck railing of my last house. At first, I didn't realize how much they were doing because their little holes were hidden on the underside of the railing. But then one summer, a woodpecker discovered the carpenter bee hideaway, and you would not believe the damage the woodpecker did to the railing! It pecked long gouges all along the rails. in several places. I guess they like the carpenter bees and their young.

I kinda like them. They don't bother anyone! Those round holes are so cool. I just give them their space and they give me the same. I can't imagine just killing g them as they are flying. How needlessly cruel...in my opinion.

The females can sting you. They normally don't unless you bother them so be careful.

After your exterminator does his job, you need to plug up that hole somehow. Either hire a handyman/contractor that does small jobs, or you can do it yourself... check out the info at this link:

.

You don't want to plug the holes until you know they are all dead or they will make another hole to get out. They make the holes to go in & lay their eggs so you need to kill the larvae. Use some boric acid powder & or spray it should kill them. They sell it at Lowe's.

Re: OT - Carpenter Bees....HELP

I had them in the ground next to my front steps. I kept pouring boiling water into the nest early in the morning but they kept coming back. Finally I put a pile of moth balls over the nest then poured boiling water on top. Never saw them again.
