Re: O/T. Breast reduction surgery

I had mine when I found out I h ad breast cancer. Ins. paid for the reconstruction and lift after the first surgery and then I had a second 6 months after the radiation because that side became smaller after the rads. Anyway the last surgery was done October 2011 and the results are incredible. No more neck pain and back pain.

My daughter had hers reduced but not lifted which was also medically necessary due to the large size. She said it hurt much less than her C section with her baby. She was in bed resting for a few days but that was the worst part. She totally agrees it is so worth it. She is able to wear swimsuits, blouses she never could, plus all of the potential problems she could have had with her neck and back were eliminated.

Re: O/T. Breast reduction surgery

I had it done about 10 yrs ago and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner!! The scars are ugly and don't go away, but who cares? I can wear anything i want now. This surgery is the #1 surgery, as far as patient satisfaction. It hurt for a couple days, but you get pain pills. Insurance paid for mine - chronic back pain. JUST DO IT.

Re: O/T. Breast reduction surgery

How timely! I have a consultation with a plastic surgeon on the 27th. Made the appt back in November of 2013! This was first available. Never had surgery in my life (53yrs) but the thought of a wonderful B cup far outweighs any fears of the surgery or the pain. There are meds for that. Currently a 40DD and am so sick and tired of "these girls". Cannot wait to get rid of them! I've heard many similar stories and opinions just like those on this post, so I'm very encouraged. Hoping this surgeon, since he's so popular and top of his class, has a good relationship with BCBS and can navigate their system in order to have insurance cover it (just got out of 3 months of PT for back issues), but even if he doesn't, I am seriously considering paying out of pocket I want this so bad. Right now I look much heavier than I am, because every top I put on looks like a moo-moo on me and is so unflattering. I'm not one to wear tight tops so everything seems too big. I long for the day to wear a cute little sundress or a little tank top. I had heard out of pocket was around $6k, and posts on here seem to agree with that. I'm very encouraged. Also, outpatient is likely, which is good. Good luck to anyone else who is considering!

I had the surgery done with I was 19. Best thing I ever did. No regrets. You're never too old to get it done. Good luck to everyone considering it.

I had the procedure 4 years ago. It was approved and covered by insurance, except for a few hospital costs. The pain is quite bearable, and is mostly due to extreme swelling that diminishes in 1 - 2 weeks. A great source for information and pictures is a website, Breast Health Online. If I knew that insurance would cover it, I would have done it a long time ago. I just turned 68.

Did Medicare pay for it or was it private ins? Thanks.

Re: O/T. Breast reduction surgery

Pain compared to what? Childbirth? A broken leg. Some discomfort but so worth it, I've had it, my daughter, my sister and we all would do it again in a heart beat! Go for it you won't regret. Your surgeon knows how to write a letter to insurance to get it paid for. Also because the "pie is smaller" your chance of breast cancer is reduced according to my surgeon. Good luck
