I really enjoy this thread. I have never had a bird but am fascinated by them. I'm just not comfortable with the idea of them flying around my apartment.

well mine only sit on the others cages when i set them free. but yesterday they were brave and went into the living room and I could not find them turns out they were perched in my fake tree lol but you can keep them in a room and close the door if you want them not to have full apt access. i was stupid and left bedroom door open but they sure loved my fake tree lol I shook the tree and they automatically went back to their cages

Re: O/T Another parakeet thread

Love the beautiful bird pictures. I don't have a parakeet but have a sweet cockatiel. Wow, what a bird. They're very social, playful and funny. I've had him eleven years now, and he was my mom's for five years before she passed away.

I always leave his cage doors open and he comes and goes on top of the cage and on a side patio I have for him. On awakening one morning recently, his cage was empty. I hunted and hunted for him, calling and whistling no reply heard. I finally found him walking around on the floor at the front of the house, happy, and quiet as a mouse.

I would get another, except he's so old now I don't want to disturb him in any way. He copies whistling tunes, and he does a lot of low mumbling which I guess he thinks is talking.

If you don't think birds make great pets, you would be wrong!

PS: Birds don't show any age at all, unlike dogs. Mine is a beautiful white, light yellow crest with gorgeous orange cheeks. Smiley Happy

I know what you mean. They are not taming up yet but they are wonderful. They are like little people.

They are! Mine loves interactive games more than his toys. And does he love mirrors. They do believe it's another bird. I've got a three-way mirror which fascinates him now and has for a long time. He even feeds it! You sure have some beautiful birds. Smiley Happy

Love this thread.

I had a blue budgie named Taco many years ago. He talked quite a bit...even swore a few times.

kcladyz: what a good looking group of parakeets you have. How old are they?
