JeanCA-with Retin-A, because it's so strong, you really need to ease into it. Honestly, you may never become a nightly user, and that's OK. I've been using it for a couple of years now and learned the hard way about the drying and flaking. I had to back off for awhile in the beginning and start over. To ease into it, apply the Retin-A a couple of times a week for 2-3 weeks, the, maybe move to an every other day schedule for a couple of weeks, and then nightly. Only use the Retin at night and use a little moisturizer with it, if you need to - not by mixing them together, but by applying the moisturizer after your cleansing routine and then a little later you can apply your Retin-A. I'm pretty much on an every other night schedule, alternating my Retin-A (0.1%) with an AHA treatment on the in-between nights, but on one of the weekend days I don't do either of them because I do a Skinn ABC Peel.

Thank you JLF for the info.

The nightly routine on Obagi if you are using the system is Cleanse let skin dry completely Tone let skin dry completely Clear Rubin until fully absorbed Blender and retin-combo after 20 minutes Go to bed after 30 minutes, not less

Re: Need help with Retin-A usage

I have been using Retin-A for several years and it still can cause peeling and dryness.

The dryness has gotten worse actually.

I am down to the 0.025% every 3rd night for now. It's worse in winter.

I get so frustrated that I sometimes consider NOT using it anymore. I have had to take week long breaks from it this winter.

If you do the right things during the day the peeling should be very minimal...are you using a toner, serum and a good moisturizer with sunscreen daily?

If you can't mix moisturizer with Retin-A, and I have dry skin what is the best way to apply it? As soon as i wash my face it is already dry so I need to apply serum or moisturizer right away.

If i don't use obagi system, can i use serum and moisturize first then add the combo last?
