I've been using the retin-a for a long time and have never peeled from it. I must be doing something wrong. One thing I added lately was using it along with moisturizer, which I will stop doing. I want the peel!!

Do some research. You CAN use a moisturizer, just don't use the moisturizer and the Retin-A right on top of one another. Do your normal nighttime skincare routine then wait awhile before applying the Retin-A. The wait can be about 20 minutes or your can do your skin care routine after dinner and then apply the Retin-A right before you go to bed.

Yours is just one viewpoint, chloesmoma1. There is a lot of info on the web where using a moisturizer is acceptable. Some information recommends using the retinoid on clean (no other products on at all, like the usual serums or moisturizers) dry skin, then waiting for a period of time before applying a moisturizer. Other sites say the Retin-A should be the very last thing that goes on at night and recommends doing all the other skincare first, waiting, and then applying the Retin-A. Honestly, if a person is having the irritation and peeling using Retin-A alone, that could be a real turnoff and they could give it up altogether. Using a little moisturizer either before or after (with the recommended wait time), to buffer it a little during the "break in and adjustment period" isn't all that horrible. As one's skin adjusts and becomes more tolerant of the Retin-A, the amount of moisturizer can be lessened or even eliminate, if that works for them. Or, maybe the user only wants to use the Retin-A on alternating nights and can skip the moisturizer those nights, but use it on the in-between nights. Not everyone or their skin is the same and there's usually more than one way to skin a cat.

Chloesmoma1,
No good deed goes unpunished on the Beauty Forum, lol!
Gotta have a thick skin around here! And, of course, everybody knows what they know and has their own opinion.
Seriously, though, thank you for your explanation of the Obagi method of using Retin-a. Much appreciated!

Well said, and I second that! You took a lot of time from your day to answer a lot of questions.
