Re: Need a primer that makes my make up last, recs?

If you've tried primers and feel they don't work, you should check out the setting sprays. Urban Decay All Nighter is good. I think NYX has a similar one now, too.

You can use the setting spray before AND after you apply the makeup for even better hold.

What do you use for foundation? You may need a setting spray such as Model in a Bottle or Urban Decay? Do you use a setting translucent Powder? I much prefer a Silicone Primer and Smashbox is my fav. You said your skin Eats Foundation, just make sure you use enough primer & make it set well, really wellSmiley Happy

Wayne Goss raves about a line that has a spray-on primer, AND he also loves their spray on finishing stuff, too. Of course I don't remember the name of it. I'll go see if I can find links to the YouTube vids for you.

My skin seems to eat foundation, too, but I do layer a lot of stuff on that might contribute to it -- a couple of serums, moisturizer, sunscreen THEN the foundation.

ETA: Okay, it's called Skindinavia and here's the link:

BUT when I was looking for this, I saw some reviews of others he says are great. One is The Present by Philosophy which he's cautious about recommending because it contains lavender oil which can cause photosensitivity. Well, he's HEARD it can, doesn't know for sure.

You can Google Wayne Goss You Tube makeup primer (or some variation thereof). :0

ETA again: The Skindinavia doesn't have silicones, I think it said

You might want to try Rimmel Stay Matte Primer. It's a little thicker than any other primer I've used.

My favorite primer is E.L.F. It's purple and is a skin brightener.

Re: Need a primer that makes my make up last, recs?

I think it's as much trial and error as no primer seems to fit all skin types. From the OP, it sounds like you are looking for some kind of primer that your foundation almost adheres to and I am not aware of a primer like that. You mentioned finding a primer that your foundation can hang on to but that isn't really how primers work. Depending on the various formulas, they can help decrease excessive oiliness, hydrate and seal the skin to keep it hydrated thru-out the day, really mattify the skin, some use color to balance skin tone and on and on. All of these in some way prepare the canvas, so to speak, which is your skin.

Yet I don't know of one that actually acts like it grabs the foundation and holds on to it with some kind of adhesion ability. If anyone can think of a primer that actually grabs the foundation then hopefully they will post. I am just not aware of a formula that works that way. Primers are generally designed to prepare the skin for the next step, much like paint primers do for walls.

I prefer hydrating primers because my skin is dry so IT's #50 is a good choice for me. Lots of great suggestions already mentioned here so maybe you could try some sample sizes and see if one of them performs well enough for your skin. It is also a tougher time of year with the heat and humidity.

Re: Need a primer that makes my make up last, recs?

I've not found any of them make it last indefinitely and mine almost always needs to be refreshed after several hours, but lately, I'm really liking Spackle in Ethereal for making my make-up appear fresh longer.

Re: Need a primer that makes my make up last, recs?

Wow! Ladies thank you so much for taking the time to post. I'm heading to sephora to check out your recs. I know Ulta doesn't do samples. I do use a setting powder from Tarte or the Rimmel Stay matte. And yes, I tried the old monistat trick, broke out horribly. I do have the IT no. 50 and that doesn't make much of a difference but at least it doesn't break me out Smiley Happy I did use Model In A bottle and did like that - gosh, I totally forgot about it! I need to buy some more. My poor wallet lol!

I agree that maybe a setting spray, misted on over your foundation, will better suit what you are hoping to accomplish. They can be very effective at preventing the weather from destroying your foundation and just seem to add that level of protection that helps foundations and other color cosmetics last through-out the day or night.

I know many swear by Urban Decay's All Nighter - I have read mixed reviews on NYX's spray primer as some don't feel it works nearly as well as UD's spray does.

If you can Aiden, try to pick up the All Nighter too as I think the after spray will make an even bigger difference in keeping your foundation in place all day. As the name implies and why this primer was originally created - it will aid in keeping foundation set after partying "All Night."
