If you purchased a mascara and tried it once to see if you like it, but then didn't use it again until months later, would you throw it away?
Meaning, I know 3 months is often recommended for duration of use. (I should have waited to try/use it.)
Thanks

I think you'd be okay to continue to use it for three more months. As long as you originally only used it once on clean lashes and hasn't been exposed daily to air in all that time. If it was a touch up & our lashes might have kept dust out of our eyes, but got mixed in the tube that could start to turn it.

I'm sure it's fine. I use my mascara till it's too dry to perform as it should. Sometimes that's more than 3 months. More like 4.

It would be interesting to know if women do indeed discard their mascara after 3 months. I don't wear makeup everyday and I have been know to keep a mascara going for a year. I have never had an eye infection from keeping and using mascara for longer than 3 months.

I write the date put into use on masking tape and place on the tube. I have mascara I use daily and I rotate among 4 tubes. I keep them till they dry out too. Sometimes it's over 3 months.

For me personally, if the mascara was OPENED regardless of usage, it gets tossed after 90 days.

I'm not even going to admit how long I sometimes use mascara. But now that I use it more regularly, I have no qualms whatsoever going at least six months, unless it changes texture or smells rancid.

I have thrown mascara out after three months even though I felt there was still some product left and it feels wasteful when I do. It's hard when one has been raised with a "waste not want not" mentality. After reading that it should be tossed after three months, I guess I just didn't want to take a chance. I think I'd be less inclined to do so with a more expensive mascara though, truth be told.

I'm healthy. I'm clean. I don't really worry about it. I don't use natural mascaras, so mine have some perservatives, too.
