64 yrs young & retired

I have naturally hard nails.  I have never had a manicure.  I've always polished, cut & shaped my nails myself.  However, I have never been able to master the "French" manicure.

I ran across these pictures & I think this is something I would want done by a "professional."  Very unique.

My nails are currently shaped liked pic #1.  I much perfer the polish in picture #2.

Re: 💅🏿 Manicures 💅🏿

I'm not in to manicures/pedicures. I do my own nails, but the nails in that photo look really cool!

I promise to remind myself every day that I am strong, courageous, and resilient.

You can go in and just have a polish.

I find going very relaxing. I treat myself to a mani/pedi a couple times a year.  The rest of the time, I do it myself.

I've never worked in a place that allowed "exotic" nails...............

Re: 💅🏿 Manicures 💅🏿

i love getting manicures and pedicures. i find them so relaxing......especially getting a spa pedicure. i try to go at least once a month....usually more in the summertime.

i am not a huge fan of the matte polishes, but i LOVE this look for a different french manicure.

I have never been a fan.  I don't really care for sitting there that long, and there are too many other things I'd rather be doing.  I have just never been a "nails" girl.  Short and natural for me--partly because I play the piano, but partly because it isn't my style.  I tried it for about a year, then quit.

Re: 💅🏿 Manicures 💅🏿

@Mz iMac Actually, as nail art goes, this would be relatively simple to do after the initial learning curve.

  • Base coat
  • Black polish (1 or 2 coats, whatever you'd use for a plain black mani
  • Top coat (either matte or glossy; dry thoroughly)
  • Use scotch tape (press against hand once or twice to remove a bit of the "sticky") or a french tip guide to define your edge (if you've used matte top coat, then leave the tip of your nail bare; if you've used glossy top coat, then cover the tip and leave the top bare)
  • Apply the opposite top coat to the appropriate area
  • Remove the guide while this top coat is still wet

Maybe try the technique the first time or two with a more neutral polish. But I doubt you really need a professional (unless you want to) since you're already proficient at doing your own manicures.

I like the look, but I could never do it.  Finally mastered the 'American', but I do think this looks good!

Re: 💅🏿 Manicures 💅🏿

I am 60 and have done my nails ever since my Mom first let me wear nail polish. I do go for a spa pedicure  a couple times a year.

I am not a fan of black nail polish on me...but I think this is pretty.
