Thank you for all your tips. I am 68.. Coloring for years every three weeks as my hair grows quickly. Light to medium brown. Half way there.
I hadn't thought too much about clothing changes and always felt limited with bright colors , mostly pastels especially coral shades and nuetrals, except reds. Very little black and white. Not used to cool shades. Thank you all for your ideas.
@Shanus I have to try some colors I never wore before for make up like pinks and plums. I always favored navy liner sometimes black but not brown or dark grey ? I started brows a couple of years ago lucky to have had nice shaped dark brows. I dont even need to pluck them any more. I like Gimmi Brow which you have mentioned you also like. Quick and easy although those little tubes do not last long.
I ordered Clinique lipstick you mentioned months ago. Pink Spice. Nude lips never worked and worse now. I like other women in the look. Thank you so much Shanus for replying. I so enjoy and appreciate your advice. Thank you again.

@smoochy I always backed away from colored frames learning to match eye, hair or lip color. That would be fun as afraid of a red pair I tried on this Spring bit did ok with blue. Thank you.

@Gorgf What I experienced is certain colors of clothes no longer worked for me. Of course, greys work perfectly but blues, greens, white, if I remember correctly it was bright, bold colors. Makeup is about the same pinks for blush, soft colors for lipsticks in the pink/rose shades. As far as using the purple shampoo. That is used if your hair looks yellow instead of gray. It will tone down the yellow and slightly darken your gray. I only use occasionally. You are a silver fox no more gray. lol

@Gorgf You're so welcome. Feeling washed out was the hardest thing for me since was always a med.-dk. brunette which gave a me a lot of contrast, but just couldn't do the dye thing every 2-3 wks. since I've been all grey since late my 20's early 30's...white part was quite visible in no time.
Great that you remembered my shade/product recommendations. Although I have thick, still med. brown brows and color the greys w/ JUST FOR MEN in Lt. Brown (much darker than the color shows), I do fill in w/ the Benefit pencil in #3 before using their Gimme brow since, you're right, it doesn't last long.
Nude lips have always been a NO for me, especially now and I find it's necessary to do brows and liner. A really dark charcoal grey liner co-ordinates w/ hair and navy defines eyes...really important as we lose that contrast.
Have fun w/ your new makeup.

@Katcat1 Thank you. My hair dresser said my grey hair tends to look dull so far. It does look like I will not have pretty natural grey hair that is even or a nice white. I recall relatives with the same.
I would not mind coloring now and then but want to be more occasional use. I have tried tge Feria grey color which darkens and fades out to a nice lighter grey. I haven't tried any shampoos. I saved some purple shampoos in Amazon lists that Nicol Johnson recommended in her U Tube blog on purple shampoo.

@Gorgf wrote:For those that went grey what did you do to brighten your look? I am half way there and have occasionally used a Grey hair color which has helped jazz up the hair and incoming grey to l blend into a look like sun lightened. I am going to try Wen's purple treatment shampoo. I even bought a book on going grey.
I honestly don't know what my grey will be like when my hair is totally grown out as colored my hair 35 years. I have blue, grey green eyes more blueish and a Neutral Medium skin I have a Bob haircut with a slight wave. I lean towards coral pinks in blush and lipsticks. Does one go brighter or softer? I am feeling washed out already. Any tips or ideas from your experiences or women you know who are grey would be appreciated. Thank you.
I'm totally grey, and I love it.I wear the pinks in lirsticks, and clothing. Silver earrings most of the time. I never wear any other makeup, quit that when I quit working. I think the bright red makes you look harsh. I never dyed my hair, just turned naturally. I use Wen shampoo and have all the luster in my hair I need.

@marmarbrooklyn wrote:Hi ! I have been salt and pepper for several years . I am 58 and wear it in a short pixie cut . As far as makeup things like foundation or concealer (if you wear them )shade range should be the same but if you have dark circles you made need to brighten them up . I have a neutral /light skin color with some redness from acne marks so I can't do blush/ lip colors too pink or red . Eyes I like to keep neutral or rose gold color . I did switch to eye shadow ( plum or dark gray or navy ) for liner . I feel thing biggest thing for me is to fill in my brows . You didn't mention your age ,but I know since I turned 50 nothing make me look washed out faster than NOT filling in my brows . SInce I am salt/pepper I do a mix of an ash brown pencil and a gray pencil . A big part of going gray are your clothing colors you wear as well . If you are someone who always wears neutrals like beige, browns or ivory tone colors . These may wash you out . These really wash me out . I have switched to blues , grays, pinks , roses blacks ,and whites . If you have not tried these colors before I would just try a pop of color .I would try something inexpensive like T-shirt or a scarf . There are many YouTubers and videos about going gray who have really great suggestions . Congulations and welcome to the club !
If you don't want to change your clothing colors, a pretty light toned scarf around your neck will be different.

The only thing I did was (just recently) switched to John Frieda's Brilliant Brunette shampoo and conditioner because the gray looked drab in my brown hair. (Silver shampoo didn't help at all!) The gray is no longer drab looking - and it's only shampoo so there's no commitment.
As far as makeup is concerned .... two years ago I went from blonde > back to natural brown w/gray only around forehead ... and I'm still wearing the exact same makeup brand and color.
I did switch from lipstick to tinted lipgloss in a rosy shade that's similar to my natural lip color. I never wore eye makeup. I have very light green eyes and I think I look better without anything around my eyes.

@monicakm I am so sorry you haven't slept. I find I can not function without a decent nights sleep especially as I have retired. Thank you for taking the time to write and share your SIL. I have been paying more attention to hair both grey and colored In fact I really noticed this sea of grey heads either waiting or receiving Covid shots last Winter. We had them offered in churches. All 65+ except one man who was younger.

@Shanus A charcoal grey liner is a breat idea. I wish I could go to a make up counter again but sadly the Department stores I used to be able to go to with cosmetic counters have closed and it would be now a two hour drive. I live in a small town. I really appreciate your advice and suggestions. You are an artist and makeup is an art with the face as a canva sI can copy but not create or see things as well on myself.
I also had to color every 3 weeks medium brown. Lucky my hair grows quickly especially now , growing out. Trims every four weeks. Brows are ok with Gimmi as just have a few stray greys.
Thank you. I love your advice a d take note.
