@JeanLouiseFinch:

The Algenist drops you mentioned, they are tinted serums?

@NativeJax No, they are not tinted serums.  They are color correcting drops to use WITH the Algenist serum foundation.  The drops come in blue, green, apricot, and pink.  The color is selected based on what one is trying to correct.  Here's a link to the product on the Sephora website.

Thanks for all the replies!

For those interested, I picked up The Body Shop Drops; they come in Lightening and Darkening shades. You use 1 drop to your entire foundation amount used for application. You do NOT mix them with the entire bottle of foundation which many products say they can do. Apparently this will change the base of your foundation and make it not work the same way. The Lightening is not pure white but a white with the slightest hint of yellow-pink..... almost a neutralizer. Hard to explain but with a too pink foundation it toned it down and with a too yellow it cooled it; both became a neutral shade as well a an entire shade lighter.

So far I've tried this with a thicker creamy foundation made for dry skin but I'm going to try with all the ones I have (I have quite a few) and see what happens.

The other 3 (MAC, NYX and Algenist) I will have to order as none are carried in a store in my area (or state, for that matter).

Yes, mixing a lighter shade in the same line of foundation makes the most sense but I'm already the lightest shade in the few lines that make something close to as pale as I am. Estee Lauder, for example, would have to offer a shade 3-4 shades LIGHTER than the lightest one they make in ALL their foundations. Being pale makes foundation shopping a true quest.

Have you tried Lancome Teint Idole Shade 90? Also Alabaster in Bobbi Brown is very light. The new foundation ...think it is called Skinn in Sephora is very very light.

I have the same trouble with Estee Lauder.....nothing is light enough for me.

Re: Lightening up a foundation....ROP

hmmmm, I would hate to order and not know if it works....I wonder if Sephora will let me try them? I have never shopped there but have been inside one. Or maybe Ulta might have some I can try? I am interested because I really like this ting.we drops I have been using. The reviews on the fair though say it's too orange but the medium doesn't seem to be too orange.

Sephora are really great with giving free samples....even a ten day supply. Ulta do not give samples which is why I shop more in Sephora.

Re: Lightening up a foundation....ROP

You can get samples from Sephora in store and take them home to try. In my Ulta, no samples so you have to to sit there and try stuff on  in the store.

IMHO, trying them on in store is not the same as applying them at home with all your other makeup and skincare.

Oh, I am really sorry to hear that. I have tried just about everything out there..... and Lancome 90 is the lightest I can find. Maybe someone knows of a brand that is for a very fair complexion... I hope you find something you love....I know how difficult it is to find a foundation that doesn't change. Right now I am using a primer from Lancome ....hopefully, I won't break out from it.

Re: Lightening up a foundation....ROP

@Trinity11  I hear you on ALL of that. My problem is that I may find one that is light enough but the formulation doesn't work for my skin OR the formulation is amazing but the lightest shade is a tad too dark; that's where I am right now. I have a foundation that is great but needs to be smidge lighter. Hopefully the drops will work.

Thank you, I will go to Sephora and check some products out. That's nice they give out samples:-) I learn a lot from this forum.
