Because I take medications to "dry me out" I cannot wear lipstick any more. But I do like a red lip on someone else. I didn't often wear red lipstick when I was younger, but think it's great for those who can do so.

Not that I do not like the look, but lately, I've really toned it down to more natural. I'm casual most of the time, and I guess that's why.
But, it's such a 40s look! And it reminds me of my DM and aunts!

I would give my older sister a bad time when she would wear dark lipsticks.
Well guess what? I now wear darker lip color than she did years ago.
And "yes" I wear red a lot.. Also berry, deep shades and some pinks, but mostly "reds" these days.

I think red lipstick is beautiful.

@sunshine45 - I love Lipsense! It's the only lip product that stays on me until I take it off at night. During the pandemic, when our masks were on and off, it stayed on and didn't come off on my mask.
Red Lantern is so pretty. I'll have to check it out. I have a few reds. My favorite bright red for summer is Fly Girl! ![]()

I stopped wearing red lipsticks when I was in my early 50s. I decided it was a harsh look for me. I don't really care for darker lips on anyone. It, also, has a tendency to get on teeth which is not a good look.

@Shanus Last night I was flipping by PBS on their special on the Althrop estate. What I was taken with was the red lip on the old paintings on most of the women! Nothing on the eyes, though.
Lots of blush, too! Man, those cheeks were rosey!
From another source....one can only assume that's the way it was....it was the French court ladies who painted their lips & cheeks. The French were always considered to be more fashionable. And the English women followed suit.

LOVE a RED lip... a blue red one for me.
As I've stated many times in the past, I have a number of red lipsticks and LOVE the color but they are way too intense when worn alone. I dot the color on my lips and spread it with a lip balm. That way I still get the original color, just more sheer. I do that most of the time with my reds.
Edited to add... Laura Mercier has some beautiful reds.

You can have the best of both worlds... use the red lipstick and the balm over it. That way the color is more sheer and you get the moisture too. Just dot on the red and spread with the balm.
