Awesome description - I felt I was there for a minute! And may I add that I love that the bridesmaids wore white - something I've never seen but I'm sure was beautiful

@Shanus

Sounds SO wonderful!  The bride and groom have such wonderful weddings these days.

My gown was bought by myself on sale at Belk because I had no help at all.

Stepmother was mainly interested in the reception where she could invite her friends.  She made most of the food herself, but, hey!  It was her cocktail party after all!  The dessert was just different.

She lost my wedding gown after having it cleaned.  I wasn't in love, it just fit.  I didn't know where to go.

I just can't imagine!

@ECBG   Sounds like you had a less than perfect day. I'm sorry becuase it should be a memorable day.

I went to a wedding dress boutique on the hunt for any dress that was small enough. I ended up with a size 2 (the smallest they carried) that was altered when it came in. My Mom put her 2 snce in and in added longer sheer sleeves and a ruffle at the wrist. Not my style, but I went along with it.

In August, after the ceremony, I almost cut those sleeves off myself, but guests were waiting for dinner.

Jewish weddings are held after sundown and in the summer, that's usually 8-8:30PM. Mom had planned a cocktail party for 5-6PM. Of course, I was in my secluded room at the hotel and everyone forgot to bring me a plate...I was starving!! Dinner didn't begin until almost 9:30.

It wasn't planned by me...not even the invitations. I was engaged at 20 and just let her take over the wedding. If it were today, no way. I'm more independant and headstrong.

***I kept the gown, cleaned, treated and in the box, but my DD wanted no part of it and she was my size. It fit her perfectly. I think ever woman wants to choose her own style.

Sounds like you had some challenges as well.

I was elated to be marrying my best friend and to have graduated after I had almost put myself through college.  I was going to the "Queen" city of NC and about to have many new experiences and looking forward to many new places to shop as well!  Of course, newlyweds, at least, this one counted pennies in the beginning, but, hey!  I was on my own!Smiley Happy

@ECBG   My aunties, knowing my Mom all too well, advised me just to go with it. Afterall, it is the hubby you choose that really matters and 53 yrs. later, still married.

@scatcat   Yes, I agree. It's a practical idea and they can not only purchase dresses that fit them and ae their style, but they can wear them all summer instead of stashing another bridesmaid dress in the closet.
