That would be a great idea if I wasn't so isolated. And I'm not supposed to be driving as it's my right knee. I have no idea how I would react in the case of an emergency. Will I favor my knee and not slam the break with all my strength or will I slam on the brakes at the risk of injuring my knee even more? Country living is great until it's not
I will contact Texas Workforce and see what they have to say about strength building at home with a PT.
I've updated my reminders tomorrow at 1pm to call TWC
Thanks!

Do you think they'll let me wear my lashes during surgery? Maybe some lip tint??
@monicakm ROTFLMBO, I love your priorities, so funny! Why not? They just don't want you to wear nail polish, jewelry, wigs. I'm sure when you do go in you'll be a trooper and have a great result.
I have to check out the new site they set up today. Allow links for you, right? I didn't care for the Delphi one either, not at all

I answered the question on the new board, "what will you not leave the house without?" Lips and lashes have always been my answer when that question comes up. I guess the most they can do is tell me to take them off and wipe off my lip tint
I'm gonna do it. Wait...heck, I'll have a full face of makeup on when I get to the hospital ![]()

@monicakm I've had a total knee replacement and two revisions on the same knee. I was in the hospital for over a week with #1 because of complications. I went home three days after surgery, but I had to return to the hospital when the complication arose and I was kept for another 7 days. After the second and third surgeries, I was an in-patient for 5 days after #2 and only 3 after #3. After each surgery physical therapy began the day after surgery.
I am totally opposed to these rehab facilities. I feel their objective is to render you more helpless so that your stay will be longer. I did all of my rehabs in my home and I live alone. I had help and the physical therapist came to the home every day and because of my pre-existing and post-surgical medical conditions, a nurse came twice a week.
Yes, you are incapacitated, but you have to dig deep to kick that incapacity to the curb. The physical therapist will probably initiate a walking program for you (using crutches) immediately. Initially, it will just be around your home, but then it should venture outside to increase the distance which will help the leg regain strength. The magic potion for me was not increased milligrams of pain pills, but rather exercising in water and Pilates. If you can I would join a gym and take up both as soon as the doctor says ok. Not only will both forms of exercise improve your new knee, but your whole body should transform and become stronger and more flexible. I'm amazed at how my body looks for a woman almost 70 because I continued with the swim and Pilates program to this day. I should add that the doctor who performed my back surgeries a few years before the knee replacements, demanded that all but his emergency surgical patients do a minimum of 6-weeks of Pilates before he performed a spinal surgery. There was some method to that madness because my back surgeries rehabs were smooth sailing.
Please keep in mind everyone is different and to be honest, I was in rather good condition from dancing and other exercises before any of these surgeries. Listen to the people who will be managing your care including the physical therapist and your pharmacist. They know you and will be able to offer the most personal guidance in your journey to a complete recovery. Good luck to you! ![]()

My husband is going to hospital tomorrow for TKR and is supposed to come home in the afternoon barring no complications.
He has put it off too long. Had several arthroscopic surgeries in each knee that did not help his pain. I live in a senior community and many in here have had it. One lady(70s) had it and was going out to get the paper next day. I am sure everyone is different with their health and ability to recover. My husband is overweight and diabetic so those factors don't help. The Ortho surgeon said one guy was in his office doing squats after two weeks but that was rare. The doctor also said that a few years ago before the opioid crisis he would have prescribled twice as much pain medication to help get him through but now his hands are tied. He said people are enduring same pain but have to do it with less medication. So unfair that some have to suffer because of the ones that abused it. Also my husband putting it off for so long is so out of shape.
If you like I can post updates and what he went through.

I had TKR about 3 years ago and I wish I had my real knee back . I have gotten infection in it twice and had to have surgery to clean out and remove Staff infection from the knee . They said it all came from my bad teeth . I had a major infection in a tooth , even though I took antibiotics l got cellulitis on the knee , took ore antibiotic for weeks , till it went away . Then I had a tooth implant done and got infection again in my knee . They said l may have to have the knee replacement removed , and replaced after 6 months of antibiotic . They did surgery and cleaning up the infection , it wasn't down into the knee hardware , but I have to be very careful . I need a crown replaced and am afraid of getting infection again . If I didn't have that knee hardware , I would not have to worry so much about another knee surgery . Now I have no choice , my real knee is gone , this one hurts all the time and is very stiff .

@monicakm Don't think so. I was told for my elbow surgery no makeup, no lotion, no deoderant,no jewelry no nothing! Just scrubbed down twice with Hibiclens soap after a regular soap scrubbing.

My friend had a partial knee replacement in June. She came home the same day. She had it done in the hospital only because her insurance dictated so. She's a nurse at the same hospital. They started her physical therapy, right then, as soon as she was released from the recovery room! She continued physical therapy for six weeks after. She did very well! It was like she never had surgery at all! She started her 2 mile walks 8 weeks after it was over. I go to the same doctor. Some time in the near future he plans on doing a partial knee replacement on my knee. I also need a full knee replacement on the other knee. I have requested to have them done in the hospital. Due to my age, weight and Asthma. Anesthesia is what scares me and not so much the surgery itself. I know he does partial knee replacements in his sugi center. We'll see what the insurance says. I just hope I do as well as my friend. She did tell me that she had a couple of times of very bad pain, a couple of days after her surgery when the nerve block completely wore off. Other than that, no problems. Good luck to you with your surgery!🙏🏼

My husband had his TKR on Thursday as an outpatient and they had him up walking right after the surgery. He went home about 4 hours later. He felt fine and was so happy to be out of pain. He was out of pain because of a nerve block. They told him it would wear off the next day and he would be in a lot of pain. They were right. When it wore off it was unbearable. He has had spinal surgery, rotator cuff, and many more I cannot think of and never had this kind of pain. They gave him the lowest dose of Oxycodone and he is a big guy. A few years ago I had elbow surgery and was given twice the amount of pain meds but now they say they cannot do it. So we are on day two and hope it gets better......No 74 year old senior should have to suffer like this because of an opioid problem we did not cause.
