Re: I Guess We've Thrown Out A Lot of Makeup Since COVID

I'm not throwing any make-up away - with the exception of mascara every 3 months.

Same here.  I am careful about mascara.

I haven't thrown any out, but I haven't used any since late February.  Once this virus stuff is done and gone (ahem!), I will toss it all and buy all new.   Probably should toss now since I'm not wearing.any of it.

Good morning, @ECBG . Loose powders should be OK. If they smell ok, you'd probably just want to clean the inside of the lid or the sifter top (wherever you tapped your brush into) w/ a bit of alcohol on a cotton pad, let dry before you close the container. You should be good to go!!!! 🍁

Why?  I have not thrown out any cosmetics.

@Mom2Dogs

Bacteria grows over time.  It's not worth the risk.  I have unopened backups.

With the virus I am only using eye makeup.

@ECBG   Remember mascara should be tossed out every 3 months. That's why I use L'Oréal on sale which ends up costing about $7 each. One symptom of Covid is "pink eye". Bacteria-free mascara is a good idea.

When you touch the mouth of a makeup bottle or use an eyeliner or eyebrow pencil, bacteria can be introduced.

@ECBG   Quite true, but makeup bottles or pumps should be pumped or poured on hand or plastic/glass palette instead of directly on face. Hands always washed (even before Covid) before doing makeup. Cream products get tossed because, once opened & exposed to air, they don't tend to last as long as powders. Go by consistency and odor. Eye liners & lip liners? I use ones that I can sharpen to keep sanitary. The automatic types sometimes tend to break off anyway.

***Changing pillowcases every few days is a "given" with night time skincare, hair products and natural oils. Satin or silk ones help prevent facial wrinkles and frizzy hair.

Re: I Guess We've Thrown Out A Lot of Makeup Since COVID

I haven't thrown out any make-up because of Covid.  Bacteria wouldn't be growing on my make-up any quicker now than it did pre Covid.

I still wear a full face of make-up every day during the week and some weekend days.  Even if I hadn't used any face make-up since the day this started, make-up doesn't go bad that quickly unless it was already old back in March.

Still working, and going to church, so I wear a full face of makeup 4-6 days a week. I haven't tossed anything except empties, some old nail polish that needed it anyway, and a mascara (which I toss every 3 months anyway).

I spent too much money on my make up to throw out.  I still use it every day and enjoy using it.
