Everyone is differnent - - - I don't really want people talking to me during a mani or pedi, unless we're discussing something in particular about the mani or pedi. I just want to relax while I'm there. I've been known to put earbuds in so that they don't talk to me. It's the public porn viewing that would make me never return.
I don't really care if we have a conversation or not but I certainly expect them to be able to tell me what they need me to do in English. This lady just pointed to the chair then started the water running and pointed to the tub so I put my feet in.She never uttered a word to me in any language through the whole pedi.

If they did a great job, and the price was right, I wouldn't let anything (including the porn) keep from going back. Like others posters, I don't expect to get chummy with my nail tech.
Who knows, maybe the guy accessed a porn sight by mistake? It happened to me at work (I clicked on what I thought was a legitimate link and wow, was I surprised!!). Unless you lingered and it was clear he was into it... If that happened to me, I would have said something to him at the time. Even if English was not his first language, he probably would have understood, "Shut that off. Right now!"
OTOH, nail salons are plentiful, so if this isn't to your liking, there's probably one down the street or around the corner.

As I said my salon in Florida the girls are asian - they are all sisters - but they speak english and do talk to their customers in english, and I have never felt uncomfortable in there.

I believe that part of doing a "good job" is being polite and respectful to the customer as well as performing a quality service. Personally, I would not go back.

I think it is the ABSOLUTE height of rudeness to speak a foreign language in front of someone who cannot understand it.
Now, IF the people need to briefly speak to a non English speaking employee (which I find ludicrous in the United States of America where your customers speak English) I could let that pass.
If all you want is Asian speaking business, they should keep it up. If they want Americans for customers, they should speak English.
I would not go back. They obviously don't find YOUR business important.

Porn is not against the law. And he's probably the owner so no one is going to tell him to stop looking at it. I don't think anyone can tell him to stop, they would probably tell him to adjust his computer screen so customers could not see it.

The language thing would not bother me, but the p*rn thing is a deal breaker. Would never go back.

If it were me, I would have gathered my belongings and walked out. If they asked me what I was doing or where I was going I would have said something like, 'Oh, you can speak english!' I personally think people speaking in front of others in another language that the other people clearly do not understand is rude and disrespectful. I don't care what nationality they are. Don't even get me started on the perv on the computer! Really? Yeesh, ick and no way!!!! I used to always bring my clothes for tailoring to a certain dry cleaner in my hometown. They are Korean and would do the same thing. I would ask how much a particular item would cost to be taken in and they would start talking back and forth in Korean. Then they would tell me the cost in perfect english. I stopped going there. What's with the discussion back & forth? Figure out what you need to do, explain it to me and tell me the cost. All's well that ends well, though ~ I donated the clothes that were too big and treated myself to new ones!!!

Yep, I agree. Personally, I don't mind at all if the only time they talk to me is to ask me what I want or tell me to move what, where. I go in to get my nails done and read while they do it, I don't go in there because I want to talk. I hate making small talk with strangers and if they talk with each other, I don't have to worry about it.
But no porn in your place of business. That's gross and someone who doesn't understand that porn has no place in a nail salon isn't going to get my business.

I've gone to a place like that where all spoke bad English, dressed like pole dancers, but did a good job.
I stopped going there because they used razors on customers and I was afraid they didn't use the autoclave, if they didn't follow other state health regulations.
Even if I did bring my own untensils, I'd still be putting my feet in bowls with jets (altho you should tell them 'no jets please') and perhaps catching something bad.
The man with the porn, what the heck? Maybe he's unable---- so it would be like watching the news for him.
Because of him, I'd never go back. There's probably peeping cameras in the wax room.......
