If I need to apply sunscreen over my makeup, I use a powder sunscreen. Unproven I know, but I've been out with it on and not gotten any redness or tan.

How often do you all apply your sunscreen during the day? Just first thing in the morning after makeup? Doesn't it stop working after a few hours? Then what? Reapply over foundation?

I cant imagine putting sunscreen on after foundation. It seems like it would mess up the make-up application. Taking off some of the foundation, and uncovering what I want covered. We sure have to apply alot of layers dont we?

If you put it over the sunscreen, it defeats the first purpose, and if you put it on under the sunscreen, it defeats the second purpose. What's a girl to do? ( File this under life's big unsolved mysteries?)
I use a mineral sunscreen and put primer over the sunscreen. I then put on my tinted moisturizer or foundation. I only put sunscreen on once a day and haven't had a problem. I don't live in a warm weather state, however. I do the same thing in the summer. If I'm going to be in the sun for a long period, I apply a powder sunscreen over the makeup I've put on for the day. I always wear a visor if I'm playing golf and it helps shield at least some of the direct sun.

A lot of layers vs. sunburn, yes, that's the conundrum. As I understand it, the active ingredients in sunscreen break down in the sun...they are supposed to do this, to protect us. So we can't just put sunscreen on in the morning, and then expect it to be effective in the afternoon. Apaches, thanks for the info about PTR powder. I use PTR foundation anyway, so maybe they wouldn't fight with each other too much. Worth a try.
But I still feel it's a lot to put on my face. Maybe the only real solutions are to give up foundation for the summer, or never go out in the sun. Don't want to do either of those, though. Big floppy hats? Only go out in the early morning? Ignore it and just not worry?
