Too hot of hair appliances can also burn grey/ white hair and make it look yellow.

Re: Help with yellowing hair

I have snow white hair and I have found that I must be extremely careful about the dyes used in shampoos. They can dye your hair yellow or sometimes green or blue. I have been using Pert shampoo with conditioner for several years now because it does NOT dye my hair and I like it's light conditioning.

The other things I know will cause white hair to yellow is cigarette smoke - big time - and the Calista lady says that using hot irons or curlers can also do that - but that has never personally been my experience. Of course she claims that her heated curlers or irons won't do that.

It can also be your water and the minerals in it. Use soft water or go to a salon that can put an ionizer to take the mineral deposits off your hair.

Re: Help with yellowing hair

Look for shampoos and conditioners that a specially made for gray hair. Also, there is a product (I can't remember the name) that sells silver and gray tints in many different shades. At the end my mom had white hair and she absolutely hated having white hair because it turned yellowish, she preferred silver hair. So, I colored her hair for her. She bought the tint at a beauty supply store. Gosh, I wish I could remember the name.

You must be very careful - these can turn your hair blue.

Hello, gonnab. Smile

I haven't tried these products, but Nick Chavez makes some products called Color-Saver Sulfate Free Shampoo, Color-Saver Paraben Free Conditioner and Color-Saver Color-Gloss Sealer.

Nick also makes Traditions Yucca Root Shampoo and Conditioner. I used those and that did help to restore the natural color to my hair.

~Nick Chavez is my favorite vendor on QVC and Alberti Popaj is my favorite QVC host.~

Thanks for the suggestions! I remember that I used Blue Malva and Shimmer Lights years ago when I had a yellowing problem after using Fekkai's Brilliant Glow shampoo. At that time, my hairdresser told me that my hair was very porous and to be careful what I used. Guess I forgot his warning!

And what is Noreen rinse?? TX

It was literally a rinse, but we never used it to soak hair. Came in capsules that had purple "stuff" inside. You dissolved them in warm water and using a fine tooth comb, combed through his hair. It kept it show white and shiny - never purple or yellowish. It was a drug store purchase in those days - probably still as well as beauty supply shops. I'm lucky in that my white hair stays very white, so I haven't bought that in years.

....not the product that I used on my mother's hair. That was why she used it, she could get whatever shade of silver she chose to have with no risk of having blue hair.
