Joel Furhman, MD has a new book, The End of Dieting, might check it out.

Exercise is great, but it loosing weight is all about reducing caloric intake. 80% of weight loss is calories - 20% exercise.

FYI............asparagus is a spring time veggie. Otherwise it's from Mexico or other.

I'm starting to think that all our produce is from Mexico. Or Chile. It's a challenge to find domestic produce in these parts.

FYI............might try Whole Foods, Walmart, Kroger's, & local farmer's markets etc. R all going to local and/or organic. It's easier now than ever to eat healthy & local.

Oh, I have definitely tried them all. Kroger is Smith's here in New Mexico. We also have Natural Grocers and Sprouts. For some time we were having produce delivered from a local farm. Even they delivered produce from neighboring states -- and countries. I live in the high desert. Our produce is hit and miss.

FYI............most fish oil is rancid and/or from toxic fish. Do your homework when purchasing this product. All fish oil is not the same. If it's cheap, there's a reason.

True, now that fish oil is suddenly so popular, there are a zillion choices out there and the price range varies. It's like yogurt. Check the ingredients.

Speaking of toxic fish, we seem to have a sushi restaurant on every street corner in Albuquerque these days. I have to ask: Where is this "fresh" fish coming from?

The lemon in this product make me suspicious they R trying to cover up the rancid flavor.

Here's a good site to start educating yourself on fish oil:

Re: HEP (Healthy Eating Program) – November 2014

Alright, well I have been exercising everyday for a week except for one day, I slacked off. I do about 20 mins for now which is good for me because I dont feel completely exhausted. I will build up slowly from there. My problem sometimes is I do too much, get completely exhausted and then lose my motivation. My food intake is not completely healthy but I am okay with that. I am aiming in reducing instead of eliminating. At least for now.

I am even making an effort to drink more water.

I will stop here because I dont want to jinx myself. Not the first time I tried to stick to a routine. {#emotions_dlg.lol}

I hope everyone is doing something healthy even if it is a little bit a day.

Re: HEP (Healthy Eating Program) – November 2014

So, happy to report, for the last 10 days that I have been exercising everyday for at least 15-20mins except for maybe two days. When I dont feel like doing it, I try to think about the goal I made for myself and most times I get moving. While I havent cut out junk food, I am doing pretty good with controlling it. My goal is to fit back into most of my clothes. Right now, the biggest size in my closet is tight and I know if I buy a bigger size I will just eat my way into it. The funny part is the bigger size that was a tad to big at point started looking pretty decent. You gotta love it.

If you can start wearing all those clothes it'll be like buying a whole new wardrobe without spending a dime! Man, that would be incentive!

What are the foods that are giving you the most trouble? Are they snacks? Or is it fast food? Have you tried substitutes? Or just eliminating one of them?

Admit it -- you feel better when you just get it done! You should feel pretty darn good about what you've been doing.

I know, Bee, can you imagine. I would be in my glory to fit back into my clothes because at the moment I am completely bored with my wardrobe or, at least, what I can fit into. I am trying to hold strong but committment is my downfall.

Snacks of all kinds, I would say, are my biggest challenge. Right now, I am not buying any so I dont have them in the house. If I dont have them around, I may want them but wont run out to get them. I only now have just chocolate and hard candy around but that is it. I know I shouldnt have those around either but.... Soon, a few friends and I are doing a no sugar challenge for a week. Only natural sugars are allowed so this will be interesting and couldnt come at a better time for me. I am interested to see how hard this week will be.

Yes, yes, and yes. I feel fantastic when I get it done, but why is it so hard to get up to do it? It is such a crazy thing.

The holidays are coming. I do want to indulge without feeling guilty with eating things that are only around maybe twice a year so getting a little control now will allow me to enjoy the holidays -within reason of course.

Today, I go grocery shopping. I am making a list and only sticking to those things. I am going to buy some items to make soup.

SOUP!!! I'm hoping that arctic blast hits New Mexico so Better-half can make his amazing minestrone. Everything he cooks that required spinach has been modified to include kale instead. Kale really holds up well in soups. Noms!

As fall starts thinking about turning into winter, have any of you modified your diets to adjust? Are we done with summer food?
